safest cleaning product for painted rims?
whats the safest....i have the desmond evos in white and a whole lot of brakes dust and it just not all coming off w/ soap and water but i dont know what else is i can use w/out damaging the paint...wat do u guys suggest?
You should be able to get a lot of the junk off with a claybar...worked on my rims. Also, I have used Meguir's Clearcoat Scrub with some success. Just make sure you recoat them with wax after using this kind of stuff. You have to keep up with them though...once brake dust gets really cooked in, you may never get it off. If you wax your wheels when you do the rest of the car, the dust will stay off the paint better...take the extra time and do them up right.
Use an acidic wheel cleaner - like the BMW wheel cleaner. Don't leave it on the rims more than 1 minute AND MAKE SURE THE RIMS/BRAKE ROTORS ARE COOL TO THE TOUCH BEFOREHAND. Then the brake dust should just hose off. I've used it and it works well - although some manual agitation of the fluid is necessary. Most detailing shops use an acidic wheel cleaner. Eagle One also makes a good one.

Simple Green works great as does Griot's Garage Wheel Cleaner. Remember that on a clearcoated wheel, you dont want to use anything that you WOULDNT use on the painted surface of your car. Keeping them waxed will help the dust from getting baked on. Good luck!
Ditto on Simple Green "Foam" wheelcleaner. I just used it last night. The rims are "purty" clean now.
However, SG isn't strong enough to get rid of old, baked brake dusts.

go to http://www.carcareonline.com for more info. This is the best resource I have found for taking care of your car, inside and out!
k but wat kinda wax should i get to seal it?
Any carnauba wax that you would use on your car is good for your wheels - as is vaseline. Vaseline will collect a lot of dust, though - which is why you should use carnauba wax instead... Check that link, lots of useful info in the FAQ's; including a whole writeup on wheel care.
hehe, you omid, why didn't clean those when I told you too? Don't pull the excuse ohh finals I got finals. hehe j/k. Good luck with that.
One question for you guys on the wax issue. I hope you know that almost all waxes can't stand temps above 150+ degrees, right??? Figuring the amount of heat generated from braking, that wax will melt like an ice cube in an oven. There's no use in waxing wheels unless you drive like a senior citzen. just my 2 cents.
