Quick tranny fluid question...
Is it Ok to use Castrol 20w50 in the ITR tranny? I did a search but didn't see anyone using 20w50. One of my local "Honda gurus" and good friend of mine says thats all he ever uses in all his Honda's.
Thanks.

the suggestion is to use a dedicated MTF like the Honda brand due to the additives.

My Uncle is a Technician at the local Porsche dealership. All they have for the roof pumps is 0-40 Synthetic. So I use that in my ITR tranny. It's designed to work under extreme heat and it works like a charm. I also used to use it in my gsr tranny. All Honda MTF is, is a straight 30w. Nothing special.

I agree...see statement below.
Like the Honda vehicles for which it's formulated, the Genuine Honda manual transmission fluid has undergone an exhaustive and exacting research and development program. When tested against competitors, it demonstrated superior lubricity in an actual Honda 5-speed transmission. And even at -20°C, it clearly performed significantly better than leading competitors.
Genuine Honda manual transmission fluid is designed for smooth engagement of the synchronizers in the transmission; this maximizes smooth gear engagement and prolongs component durability.
Always use Genuine Honda manual transmission fluid. If Honda MTF is not available, you may use an API service SG, SH or SJ grade motor oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 as a temporary replacement.
However, motor oil does not contain the proper additives and continued use may cause stiffer shifting. Replace as soon as convenient.

we've switched to normal motor oil in the race car on the new tranny. normal motor oil is loud as fug. It's not a ITR though but if it has bad results I'll let everyone know, 12 hour race right after expo for the car
edit: personally, I use redline MTL and have for a long time with no problems.

I switched from numerous varieties of straight motor oil in my GSR tranny to Honda MTF and I can verify that shifting/engagement is much smoother. I had a bit of a picky 3rd gear and the MTF completely solved that.
