Default 4-1 header question.

i understand that the main reason for not being able to run a nice 4-1 header(smsp) is because of the front crossmember and the front motor mount. now, the front crossmemeber can be cut very easily to allow the header to clear but the front motor mount isnt so easy.

What i was thinking was to make a solid rear mount that would allow the removal of the front mount all together. This would also be benificial for turbo applications also. It would allow a bigger turbo to be run without the clearance problems the mount creates.

Anyone think that a solid rear mount would be enough to stop the motor from rocking forward and backwards? If so maybe its something i will try out very soon and see what happens....

doesn't sound like it will hold at all. take a weight lifting bar, throw on 10lb plates on both sides. now hold it level any way a normal human with 2 hands would. Not hard. now try holding it level only grabbing one side of the bar. Considerably harder. You get the idea.

i thought it might work because the mount kit for a h22 into a Eg hatch only uses 3 mounts and they seem to work just fine. oh well it was just an idea i guess...

I think the idea is possible..

"a surface must be supported by at least 3 datum points.

Someone refrenced to holding a barbell up w/1 hand..you are not taking into consideration the side mounts. ie, the edge of the barbell would be supported too.

Mind you, the Rear mount would have to be fabricated alot differently. You should not just pull your front mount and run rear.

if the mount was made completely solid i dont see how the motor would still be able to move. then stiffining the 2 side mounts should be more than sufficient. the car would vibrate alot but some people wouldnt mind and it could be very helpful for those hoping to run a bigger 4-1 header or larger turbo...

don't forget the front cross memeber also encorporates radius arms.. in it .. thus affecting suspension as well...
