shock question?
i wrecked my car about a month ago and i had a 4th gen w/ KYB AGX's.
im almost positive im buying a 5th gen this week but i want to know if i an use my shocks on the 5th gen
they are different part numbers but the part numbers on 5th and 6th are different too but i know that will work cause my buddy has 5th gen shocks on his 97.
the only difference i can think of is that the 5th gen ones may have a little longer shaft but i dont really think it will affect anything, and i shoud be ok if i order another 4th gen shock and use it (the front passenger side shock was owned in the accident) for the 5th gen
nah, the lower part of the front shock is a different size (smaller on the 4gens)...and I believe that they are also shorter. You could make up some little spacer sleeve, but I'd be tempted to just go get the right ones.
look at this thread for information about putting newer shocks in our cars. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=450851 and then reverse it in your head
I bet I know where you could get rid of the AGX's that you have on your hands if you gave a killer deal.

Yes you can use the 4gen shocks...just use the 4gen front forks aswell...don't go by that thread.
All the 89-95 rear shocks are similar length and have the same mountings
The 88-91 front shocks can only use the 88-91 front forks but the will fit in the 92-95 civics with no problem and + its a shorter shock so its good.
You would be best to go with a coilover kit as putting 88-91 front in a 5gen since they are shorter shocks will lower the car the amount the shock is shorter.
So if you put eg race springs on ef shocks in a eg then the the car will be as low as the shortened springs + about an inch lower in the front with the short ef shocks. If you use ef spring in the front the car will be quite low as the front springs differ in height between eg and ef.
Anyways if you need anymore help just post. or IM me

so i should be cool if i use my EF forks ok
but u mentioned the drop being more than intended, what springs should i use, my current eibach sportlines, or the nuespeed sports that come on the 5th gen.
also if i run the shocks like this do i risk blowing them? i know the rears are the same so i may just keep those, sell the one front left one i have and buyma 2 front shocks since i already have to buy one anyway
