Default Problem with speedometer in 94 Accord LX

I'm having a problem with the speedometer in my moms accord. When I start the car it jumps up to 30km/h when its idling. It was stuck at 30km/h for a good 20 mins while I was driving until i hit a bump and then it was as if it got knocked back into place and started working again. I was wondering if anyone here has had this problem and knows how to fix this. Any help would be great. Thanks

Sounds to me like you may possibly have a speedometer head that is bad. The next time it happens ... bang on the dash above it ... HARD ... and it if causes it to go back where it should be and works ... you will need to replace the guage.

i wouldnt reccomend "bang"ing on your moms dash. just bc its not your car.

i paid like 30 dollars for a spedo, and got to choose how many miles i wanted on it. they had like 10 to choose from

One other question does anyone know how much these clusters usually go for? I really don't want to be tricked into paying too much.

Could be the speed sensor.

And if it is the speed sensor how would I go about finding out if it is or not?

Why not? Afraid he might break it? I work on these cars all day and this is a quick way to figure out if that is the problem or not. He is NOT going to do any damage to the dash ... trust me on this one.
