I checked out this 1989 crx si today. It's got 149k miles and when you start it up it idles fine for a minute, then it goes from 1000 rmps up to 2500 or so and back down over and over. Like I'm pushing the gas and letting off. When you turn the air on, the idle stays even. (???)

I might add that it's been sitting for a year, so I'm first inclined to think of running fresh gas and FI cleaner through it. Is there anything else you could think of if fresh gas and cleaner don't do the trick? Any sensor on these models that tend to fail? thanks.

Also, is there a good place online that anybody would recommend for buying cheap/used body parts (ie 1/4 panels, bumpers)?

common sensor that tends to fail is usually the iacv sensor. i would check vacumn hoses to see if it's right. how much you buying this rex' for?

partstrader is a good place to get parts ONLY if you could do it locally and pick it up on the spot, no shipping like that some fool that scammed me out of $110 and he lives in davenport,fl.

 

i will also say that the IACV causes most of the erratic idles in our gen hondas.

since its been sitting for a year basiclaly flush ALL fluids before driving it and change the oil.

Thanks. The kid had it out on the street trying to sell it and somebody vandalized it. It needs a bumper and two fender/quarter panel (whatever you call them) now and the idle issue addressed. Other than that it's flawless, ac works, lots of new parts. He says he will let it go for 600 but I plan on offering 450 (because I know it's been sitting and he's desperate to unload it) if I decide it's worth my while. I would just fix it and sell it.
