Default Will this toast my engine?

I have a 97 Civic EX coupe, I have done the regular bolt ons, and I would like more power. I don't want to do an engine swap, i would rather turbo or supercharge my car. My car as 74k miles on it right now, if I turbo/supercharge it now, will I blow my engine? If not, what would be the recommended psi to run at since I still have stock internals in my engine? Thanks for the help guys!

hey your engine will be fine dude. my team members have a 97 ex with like 120k miles and we are dropping in a t3t4 fmax turbo in a couple of weeks. but you should only boost like 15 psi on stock bottom end that is if you have lower compression, otherwise you should boost less on stock bottom. your engine is still new. i'v seen way older engines boosting or squeezing.

A lot of people on this board have like 120k+ miles and have safely been boosting for quite a period of time without problems. If you are worried that your engine will not be able to handle forced induction, run a compression test and leakdown test. If you compression numbers are still good, then you are ready to go FI

If you are running stock internals but upgrading fuel then you might want to stay in the 7-10 psi range. If you are running stock fuel then I wouldn't go above 7 psi. Remember to tune the hell out of it...

Thanks for the input guys, should I do supercharge or turbocharge? I am assuming Jackson Racing if I got a supercharger, and where is the best price on these? Or if I did turbo, what kit should I buy and where from?

Also, will the Greddy 92-95 EX kit bolt into my D16Y8 like it does on the 92-95? I have heard that the kit will fit, or need small modifications, nothing large. Thanks again!

dont go supercharger..ive heard bad bad things about them i guess they seize up after daily driving and are not reliable, plus they dont create as much hp and turbo..go with turbo

Problem with turbo is that if I dont get a quick spooling turbo, it wont be any use for me. I autocross my car, I don't drag race it. So I need the power to be there at all times, without worrying about the turbo spooling and unspooling. I have heard that the T25 spools at around 2000rpms, is that true?

Has anyone heard anything about the new JG Edelbrock kit for my car? Sounds nice, but no suggested price yet Thanks again guys!

I've had my charger on for 3 years, 40,000 miles later still runs strong, driven daily. Look at my sig, I'm certainly not easy on it. Ones that seize up are probably do to improper installation or overtightening the serp belt.
I guess they sieze up so often that's why jackson racing offers a 100,000 warranty.
I assure you there are just as many problems with turbos that are improperly installed and tuned.

Too many variables involved. Anyone can "toast" their motor with mods that create additional hp. It's all about tuning and building the motor properly. On stock internals I wouldn't go past 7 or 8 psi, but I have seen people run up to 15 psi. Do alot of research on whatever you decide to do.

if you autocross and are worried about spool time go with a supercharger...
