Any issues w/ dealer warrantee for stock ITRs that race/autocross?
Plan to go in for my 3,750mi maintenance. I am concerned that the conditions of my tires after such a short period will tip off the dealer that I have been racing (autocrossing). Do I need to be concerned about my warrantee being compromised? Does anyone have any experience with this?
I took my car to the dealer a few months ago for some autoX alignment. My car had about 20K miles at the time and the service guy was happy the car was getting some *real* usage
What dealer u going to, got my car from acura of westchester and they were pretty cool. They warrantied my engine which I bent valves 3rd to 2nd. And warrantied my clutch
While I haven't had to make any warrantee claims, David McDavid's service manager here always seems interested in how I have been doing in my autocrosses. Same thing as you are worried about, they asked me about why my tires were so worn when I was getting an oil change one day. I just told them that I auto-x.
It will all depend on your dealership. Worse comes to worse, and you need to make a claim, just take it across town to a dealership that doesn't know about your "activities".

Get some race tires. Seriously you'll save money in the long run. I know it sounds counterintuitive but race tires last longer under autocross conditions that street tires do. I've seen new street tires destroyed after 1 or 2 events, the treadblocks literally rip off of the tire.
Get a cheap set of wheels (Mazda Millenia wheels are a PERFECT fit) and put some race rubber on them. You'll save money and go faster.
As far as the dealer goes, just tell them you drive it kind of hard from time to time. The burden of proof is on them.

Your warranty is still in effect if you race or autocross. The only thing that is affected is that if there is a problem that is CAUSED BY racing or autocrossing, it MIGHT NOT be covered. However, it really depends on the problem and whether or not it's your fault. If you overrev by going to the wrong gear on a shift, that's your fault, just like it is on the street. Most of what you do to the car in autocross - wearing tires and brake pads more quickly, for example - involves faster wear of parts that aren't covered for wear by the warranty anyway.
Bottom line is that you're asking about warranty coverage if and when anything goes wrong, and most things will be treated the same for coverage regardless of whether or not you autocross.

I would hope that any Acura dealer would be glad you are racing your car. This is, after all, a factory race car that was meant to race!
My dealer is always asking me how the racing is going

Don't sweat the condition of your tires. Also it is best if you don't mention racing until you find out that they encourage it. Not all of us are lucky enough to have a dealer who isn't a punkbeatch
