How many miles do you have on your motor? You might not need to do much to it.
Another option for your $2500 is save up a little more and get a turbo kit.

On my LS, the best thing I ever did was put in some big cams. For your money, I say cams, with all neccesary springs/retainers and some serious dyno tuning.

the motor has 78k on it, what type of buildup would i have to do for the turbo, and if i left stock internals what type of gain would i expect with just a bolt on greddy?
Before you get any dreams of a turbo, you better get a compression and leakdown test on your motor first.
Also keep in mind that a turbo costs a lot more than just the kit itself, so I doubt your $2.5k will cover it. I suggest that you use the search function and learn more about turbos and the costs of having one before you decide to boost.
Turbos are not plug and play....

Plugs/Wires = Easy Gain..
Exhaust = Easy Gain..
Just your basic bolt ons will give you a fair advantage

On the other hand, you might want to take in consideration completing your basic boltons for $2.5 will definitely do that for ya, as suggested above.
With a turbo you'll need an intercooler, oil pump, fuel pump, turbo, boost controler, turbo timer, air/fuel controler, injectors, fuel rail, piston rings, maybe even new pistons. Too much for a turbo right now. I have an LS and the first big engine mod that i want to do is a B16a head, it's vtec, and it flows air better than our regular B18 heads. ( all B seris engines have the same bore, i thinks it's 83mm so the heads are interchangeable) It shouldn't be that expensive, probably less than $1000 in the end. you don't need to do anything to the internals, and if you got a vtec control for an extra $300, you'll probably be set with an extra 40+ hp. Also when they work the head you can have your internals built for the turbo. like sleaves, rings and pistons. The total with everything and internals should come out to about 2.5k or maybe a little more. Talk to a local shop for prices. Good luck
$2500? LS/Vtec buildup.
Then use the rest for headwork.

right, well im still confused as all hell on what to do, i have headers and exhaust available to me through my local speed shop, my hatchback was sponsored by them, the exhaust system they said they will provide me with is a greddy street legal header to an EVO cat back, so im not really hurting on the e/h. i just dont want to put all that stuff on and have a slow car, i want to go fast first, sound good 2nd, i know basic boltons help alittle, but i am looking for a bigger gain, i shouldnt have gotten rid of the hatchback, lol, but i like the teg more
