Well the other night my alt went bad. I went and bought a new one and when i went to put it on today i noticed that the ground wire for the alt was FRIED. So im guessing that either the alternator going bad was because of the ground....or the ground getting fried is because the alternator went bad. Either way i need to know where that ground goes...like where does it go from the alt? By the way...its a 92 LS in a 90 CRX. And when i went to take it off it shocked the hell out of me...when i touched it with the wrench it sparked and got me pretty good. I need this car back on the road ASAP. Thanks.

Im not 100% sure but i think that the ground goes to the fuse box under the hood!?!? Ive got the ground wire from my stock Dx engine but it looks a little smaller than the other one...will it still work? Like i said...i need it on the road asap so ANY help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I know that someone can help me out here. Anybody? Well i had to take out the master cylinder to get the alternator out...so im going to be busy for a while putting all of that **** back together. That can give you some time to come up with a briliant answer to my problem
. Thanks

I think you are refering to the wire that has the rubber cap at the alternator end and runs up to the main fuse panel. If so, that is not a ground. It is basically connected to the battery positive terminal. That's the way it recharges the battery. There might be a fuse between it and the battery, so if you drew a spark with your wrench, make sure to check out the fuses. As for it getting burned... if the diodes in the alternator were shorted, it could draw enough current from the battery to toast the wire. As long as it isn't melted too bad and the insulation is still intact, you should be OK to re-use the wire.
word for the wise = unhook all + - battery cabels when working on ANYTHING electric. Everytime too, cause the one time you dont it will bite you in the butt just like it did to me....
