adj cam gears? have seen aem gears rubbing the back side cover. belt too tight? start there.
you may have the belt too tight. did you remove the belt completely? remove the belt guide under the crank pulley? make sure it is there or the belt will walk rubbing on the front cover and check to see if the belt is too tight.
Did you replace the lost motion assemblies with ITR ones? If not you made a boo boo. The ITR ones are slightly shorter. Also check the obvious stuff like belt tension and clearance of the belt and covers.

back off the T-belt tension George Jetson! it needs deflection to work properly. the inside of a 10-12mm wrench between the cams should be the estimated belt deflection... yes thats in one direction, also do this when the motor is COLD. Keep this in mind... the motor GROWS when its cold and warms up
Hence it will get tighter as the car warms up if set when cold...
so dont tension it when the motor is hot. if you do so you have to know what you are doing. chances are if your T-belt sounds like a guitar string at TDC on the thrust side of the belt, its too tight.

no it's not turbo, does sound Exactly like a spoolin sound though.. -checked tension on timing belt -still not fixed sound yet.when i added my header a while back, i got this sound at the 1st 2 minutes of start up -now with R cams -its all the time, could it just be the added air flowing?
funny my car is stock...well atleast from the outside of the engine it is stock i never opened up the valve cover yet...but anyway when its a lil cold out my car makes that same sound for like the first 10 15 minutes of driving...at about 3 3500 rpm it makes that turbo sound..i have no clue what it is but now that the weather is warmer it doesnt do it anymore...any ideas what it may be...a drive belt to tight?
thanks....

Can you please explain what are the lost motion assemblies are, and what they do? Ive read about replacing camshafts and Ive never heard them mentioned. Even the c-speedracing.com how-to doesnt mention it. tia

They are basically little springs that keep tension on the VTEC rocker assembly when its not in use. they keep the center rocker from flopping around at will and help align the rockers when teh VTEC plunger begins to lock them together.
If you have a LMA that is too long it will bottom out when the rocker swings past it putting tension on the rocker, LMA and Cam. Sometimes with the use of high lift cams the (i.e. todas and such) the tension on this LMA is so great it will begin to stress crack things like cams and rockers.

Not sure, they are different sizes. I only have had experience with aftermarket cams causing the failures. Anyone else got any insight to this one?
I am running CTR cams with stock b16 LMS and Typer R springs and have no problems. I would think it might be timming belt to tight or cam gears rubbing.

I have the exact same problem. When engine is cold is a whining sound but goes away 5-10 min after starup. Anyone know what this can be?
