My brakes went out today
I was sitting for an extra long time, and i had my foot on the brake pedal. Then all of a sudden, my pedel dropped to the floor. I did some minor diagnostics. The brake fluid level was way below minimum. There were no leaks aroudn the master cylinder. I pumped the break with the engine off and i got some height and compression in my pedal so i know my booster check valve is ok. I've deduced it to being a brake line that finally gave out. Funny thing is tomorrow im suppose to goto my new job, first day...well i lost my cell tonight, my brake lines are faulty, and my home phone isn't working, either because of a line down, or they weren't paid on time, im not sure which.
Any other ideas or what i should look for?
cliff's: sat there with brake pedal depressed, then it hit the floor, no leaks in engine bay, booster is ok, so a line must be broken.

There's the question right there.
Are you sure it's a bad line? This may sound obvious, but have you tried bleeding the brakes?

I'm no expert but there a few possibilities:
a. faulty line
b. leaking cylinders in rear drums
c. both
Man...it sucks to be you
. Wish you the best.

I agree with the last poster (audioroach) about the possibilities. What I would do is just roll the car foreward an entire car-length and see if you see brake fluid on the ground. Or you could just crouch down and look under. You may also need to inspect the inside parts of the wheels as it may have broken/come lose there.
My sister's brake light went on and the fluid was low...I put some more in and noticed that the left-front wheel was dirty. I figured that brake fluid was leaking and landing on the wheel. I was right, she brought it in and all they did was tighten stuff up.
Either way (broken line or leaky front or rear wheel cylinder/caliper)
(yet another story if you don't mind) My dad had some work done on his clutch hydrolic system, but all issues weren't resolved. It turned out that either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder (the one that does the pumping or the one that moves because of the pump) had leaky seals, but it didn't get past the boot, so no leaks were apparent. The replacement was hit-or-miss for the most part in this case. However, on a car like your's, I suspect you have a leak.
Tell us what you find!

welp i figured out what went wrong. big *** hole in my line. looks like dry rot. Its about an 1/8 of inch gap. I've gotta wait 2 weeks and i'll have the line in. It was right where the line bends to go to the caliper right after running paralell to the damper. Thanks for the help
