Anyone like the Sedan Steering Wheel better?
I saw the steering wheel on an 88-91 civic sedan the other day, and I think it looks better than the HB or crx one. Anyone else think so? It seemed like it had a smaller diameter too, I'm guessing about 13.5". I don't know what diameter my STD one is, because it's not here. Does someone wanna measure theirs?
It was also an adjustable/tilt steering wheel, which mine isn't. Can I make mine like that by installing the lever? Or would I have to swap in the whole base and everything from the sedan?
The sedan also had an intermittant wiper setting, which I would really like to have. Can that be swapped in too, and has anyone done it before?

To do the intermittent wipers - install the switch in place of your and swap the large relay that is in the back of the fuse panel under the dash.
PRESTO CHANGO int wipers ;-)
let me know if this doesn't make sense.

hmm.. i kinda like that steering wheel. i already have the tilt steering tho, came stock on my car. would the sedan steering wheel bolt right up? or would you have to do some modifications?? i know a few sedans that are wrecked that i could get a steering wheel off of for free, so if it'll fit, i might just do it

i've like the sedan steering wheel better ever since i got my sedan a year ago. it's comfy and i like how rotund it is (the 90-91s at least).
you can put it on hatches/crxs, but make sure you get the DX sedan wheel, because LXs have cruise and a silly do-hickey on them that slides onto the column. it's all so you're horn will work correctly. hope that made sense...

just another question. If I were to get one for my 88 hatch, what year DX sedan could it come out of? 88-91? 88-89?? and would I have to do any other modifications to get the horn to work? or could i just pull my wheel off, and put the new one on?

Go to the junkyard - by pulling the parts you will understand alot better --find a car with int wiper stalk - pref 88-89 or 90-91 same as your yr. Make sure the battery is disconnected. To pull that stalk, you have to take the steering wheel off - you will see the two stalks on the center black mount - this is held in by two screws in the middle. Take those out and pull the wiring harnesses out of the back. I thinnk two screws hold in the int wiper stalk to the black center.
Now under the dash - two bolts hold in the fuse panel. Pull it down and you will see on the back side a HUGE relay - about half the size of the panel. Pull that and replace yours and install the stalk. Done.
Clear as mud?

this post is full of so much MISinformation its rediculous
anyways heres the low down
ummm you have a 90 crx si, it too has intermitent wipers..........theres no difference in the int. wipers of the sedan and the crx si...............
i have a 91 sedan EX and a 91 CRX si and the wipers are exactly the same
as far as the steering wheel goes.......if you go for the sedan DX one itll still be the crx si(3 spoke) or HF/STD(boomerang) style steering wheel....... the LX and EX have cruise control and youll have to find a way to make your horn work right......

Hcivic88 YOU are correct sir.
i had a 91 sedan DX with a FOUR spoke steering wheel, like the one in the pic.
i don't know if the comment was mostly directed at the wiper information, but i did not misinform anybody thank you very much

ok so the 90-91s have 4 spoke and the 88-89 DX has the boomerang, someone would have found a 88 DX in a junkyard then yelled that it didnt have the 4 spoke one

To put tilt steering in, you have to get the whole column. You'd also want to switch your lock cylinders so that yuo could use your current key. I did this in my Civic. I put in an 89 CRX Si steering column (w/ tilt steering), steering wheel.
i have that wheel in my SI, but i have the one with the cruise control buttons.
i plan on hooking the buttons up to the volume control on my stereo.

Alright, so we figured out what wheel is in the pic.
so if i were to pick up one of those wheels, would it just bolt right in in place of my stock one? and would the horn still work?

you can put the sedan wheel on your column, all you gotta do is get the piece that goes under it and bolts to the top of the column. you'll have to get the wires that plug into it that run your horn and cruise, and splice into them. not hard at all. did it on my wagon.
go to http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...INATION+SWITCH
the part you'll need will be #14 to bolt to your column, and make your horn work with the new wheel.

I have the LX wheel with the missle launcher buttons on it..I mean cruise control...I liek it much better than the Si one..my si one came unglued...My horn worked all you have to do is snipp the curise control wires so they dont dangle and put the metal shim from the si/dx wheel to the lx wheel and bam ur horn should work...

That steering wheel will bolt right up! I have it in my 89 hatch, very nice too. Well what you gotta do to take it off is easy. Get a little screw driver pry off the little emblem on the steering wheel. Grab the right size socket for the nut (I think it's 22), and then just loosen it. And it comes right off. Vice versa. Just make sure when you do this that your steering wheel is straight.

I've changed my mind since I first made this thread, I actually like my STD (boomerang style) steering wheel better. I just liked the sedan one because it was different and I hadn't seen it before.

I couldn't find anything about changing the lock cylinder in that manual. What section is it in?

I'm not sure exactly where it is, but if you look at the lock cylinder, there will be a little pin on the side of the housing that you have to push in with a punch, and this lets the whole cylinder assembly slide out.
