Default engine light on

Ok heres the situation. Did mpfi swap months ago. started for 1 week (gopt lazy to keep working on it thats why it took so long) Anyways, the engine light is on, doesnt start. Fuel pump doesnt come on, but it is good. NOW, if the main relay was bad, would that cause the engine light to come on?

The CEL will come on for about 2sec when you first turn you ignition on then it turns off also while the CEL is on the fuel pump will run and when it turns off fuel pump stops. You should also hear a click when the CEL goes off from the main relay no click relay bad. Turn you ign on and wait about 10secs and see if the CEL remains on, then check for codes.
