Default help with higher wattage headlights

I just bought new halogen headlights for my 93 prelude SI that are either 60W or 80W for the headlights and 100W (or maybe more) for the brights. After installing the regular headlights (9006), the headlights would not turn on. The stock headlights are rated at 40W, but when playing around with the new ones, I installed only one and it worked, but both together would not. What is causing this problem and is there a way around it? There may be some sort of limiter or circuit breaker preventing high wattage bulbs? If I can, I'd like to use both the regular lights and the highbeam lights.
