Need help from ITR owners
Today I went to check out this 2001 PY ITR at a Subuaru dealer and everything looks perfect. Only thing that bothered me was that he "REWRAPPED " his AC line with a aluminum material with zipties instead of that factory spongly meterial. That bothered me because I heard boosted cars wrapped their ac lines with thermal wrap meterials and I dont want to buy a car that was previously boosted. Is there any other logical reason why he would do that?Everything in his car was stock, Engine look mint mint, and nothing seemed outta place except for that.

I wouldn't buy from a dealer if I were you... Dealers around here are notorious for getting R's, slapping them on their lot for $23,000 and selling them the next day. I used to work in an AT&T Datacenter right behind an Acura dealer, I saw a black R sell for $23k in a day, and a PY sell for $23.5 in about a week.
Its a 2001 PY ITR #146 with 17.5 k miles. They were asking 23999, but Ive gotten it down to 21 k. Anyone have any input with the ac line?

A possible reason is that he had an aftermarket short ram intake without a mounting bracket. If that is the case, when the intake pipe gets hot it melts the original material that covers the ac line and eventually damages the line itself. To prevent this you can wrap the ac line w/ a heat-deflective material. Just another possibility....
Hmm the ac line Im talking about is right in front of the exhaust manifold heat shield, so I dont think its no where near the intake pipe

Yes I know theres alot of R's for sale on this board but I hate the hassle of dealing with out of state purchases.(Driving, checking it out, shipping, etc..)
You guys are taking too many precautions! The car only has 17k miles and still has the factory warranty on it. Oh, and not only is it a Type R, but its a Honda motor! Best motors ever built. Buy the damn thing, and enjoy it. I bought mine from the dealer and there isn't anything i would trade it for. Not even an Evo VIII...speaking of which, they are 38k now.
But anyway, buy the car bro, you won't regret it

it might have just had an aftermarket header at one point in time that prevented the use of the stock upper heatshield.
I thought that the M00gen header came with silver wrap for the upper a/c line... but I could be wrong.

i dont see a big deal . just chek the compresison and elak down, if its cool thne the car is prob good, and dont think that cut and spliced fuel lines will show up , i never touched mine and mine been boosted and juiced forever. i can ealisy put my car back to where noone would know a thing .
But im sure it is fine , maybe he was scared of melting the lines>? im sure it can happen even without a turbo

Hey itr206...Do you have a turbo or a supercharger? Also, are you running on the stock internals or did you upgrade? I plan on putting a drag turbo kit in my ITR, and wouldn't mind some info on how you think it runs, and if its still reliable. Just let me know. Thanks
