Default Project Peel and Seal: Success

Well, I took the advice of users on this forum and decided to go out to Lowe's and try this peel and seal. I only spent about 36 dollars to do my whole car except for under my carpet, and it works great!!! The smell is extremely minimul for only about 1 day, after that, no smell. I would suggest this stuff to anyone on this board. Figured I would let ya'll know how it turned out

Oh yeah, not to mention the rattles are gone, the bass is much louder in the car, and the sound outside has been reduced greatly.

Good job. Did you hate deadening as much as I did? It was a PITA, but it made a world of difference.

******* around, the project took me two days. It was NOT FUN, not to mention I cut my figers up a lil bit, but in the long run, it was well worth it. I only had to use one layer.

Took me almost a week, in the middle of a damn heatwave.

I used about 70-80sq feet i think. I did the floors, doors, and trunk. 3 layers on the doors, 2-3 in the trunk and 1 on the floor

The Lowes item is call Peel and Seal. It is found in the roofing section. It is only 6 inches wide, and not very long. For the majority of my install I used RaamMat, which is the same thing, but about 1 foot wide, and it comes in a much larger roll.
It's pretty easy to install, just time consuming, you basically just heat it and stick it on your cars body panels.

I am going to fiberglass an enclosure in my spare tire well. Should I deaden under the enclosure and if so how many layers?

I've been thinking about that too. I don't think that it would be necessary because there would be very little, if any space between the glass and the wheel well. I have seen installs done with and without deadening in the well.

Edit: If you do deaden, then I would suggest 1 layer. Are you pressed for space?

I didn't have to heat it. It makes it easier to mold into all the little retarded nooks and crannies in Civic chassis (especially the doors). IMO it makes it stick better also.

Alright... Its found in the roofing section but is a sound deadener material? That makes now sense... It doesnt sound to cheap if it cost $36 just for that small space... Is it as effective as the others like gayass dynamat or not? I am going ot do this soon because I hate the road noise I get... I wanna have a caddy quality ride... PLUS< I wanna have better sounding music... You think 80 ft^2 was enough? How much did it cost... I got a little prelude, so I figure costs would be abuot equivalent and am trying to compare... ALL the ******** always going u get what you pay for... None of them have even ever tested or compared.. Just always satisfied and disgruntled at the idea of being ripped off... Im in if the quality is good and I'll do 2 layers if its more price effective..

Space really isn't an issue. I was just wondering if the well would vibrate at all even with the fiberglass in it.

not much from my experience... Just make sure you do your first well with a felt like material... Then, its a dead out no... Most ppl do a layer like this with t-shirt, fleece, felt or something else soft for molding... Its to help the shape be more precise... I made one w/o and one with... Lets say the one with was 10x easier and the bottom was still soft so no rattle.. But go ahead and mat it if you think you need too... I say go for it for $5....

I went to a roofing supply house and payed $27 + tax for 1 ft wide X 50 ft. long roll. It has a textured surface that looks cool as hell. It barely even smells at all, in fact it's been like 90 degrees here and I don't smell it in the car at all. It was very easy to work with, I didn't even have a roller. So far I've just done inside my doors and rear panels. I plan on doing under the rear seat and trunk soon. This 50 ft. roll should be plenty enough to cover it.

My cost was a mere 50 cents per sq. ft. At Best Buy Dynamat extreme was $4 sq. ft. What a rip! It's all just tar with aluminum on it no matter what it's called. Thicknesses may vary slightly. Don't be crazy and waste money on the name brand stuff.

I have used this type of material to line the insides of subwoofer cabinets. I have used it on computer cases (cuts down the noise alot), home A/C units. It has tons of uses.

Haha. My computer rattles when my bass hits

I need to give this stuff a try. I thought the fumes would be around much longer. Maybe I can do my trunk for a test.

Sounds exactly like raammat.

Yes, raammat, dynamat, peel and seal, etc... are all pretty-much the same.

Anyways, I would look for a roofing supply store before going to Lowes or HD. You'll probbaly get a better price.
