starting my b16 swao in the rex...tonight! Help tips?
Brief rundown as to what i'm doing:
JDM b16aSir1 into a CRX DX
J1 tranny
pr3 mugen spec ecu
I have been researching this swap for about a year now, ever since I wanted to do it, and now the time has finally come for me to do it. I have the 90-93 teg axles, injector resistor box, shift linkage, mounts, ecu, new spindle lock nuts and retainer clips for the axles, the HAsport dx-SiR conversion harness, Mobil 1 synthetic oil for the motor and tranny, as well as all new hoses, new water pump, new timing belt(all already replaced). I have the center punch for the shift linkage, 32mm socket for the axles, complete metric socket set, engine hoist, and 11 days off(starting tomorrow) to do this swap. I also have brand new obd0 injectors that i just popped in the fuel rail.
if any experienced swappers have any useful tips for me that I might be forgetting, pain in the *** problems that they encountered that I might want to look out for, I mean absolutely anything, please let me know. i have double/triple/quadruple checked everything to make sure i have all the parts I need. Can anybody think of anything else i'm forgetting? Tips?
Wish me luck!
p.s...already got the beer. That was first on the list.

Any tips besides learning how to spell "Swap", that is?
Sorry, i'm at work... and today doesnt even exist to me work-wise; all i can think about is finally doing this swap.

check out my website, (in my sig) it has a good how to,
however, mine says use 36mm axle nut and im wrong, its 32mm,,
you might want to rent this tool out from autozone as well, to pop ur axles out of the spindles. (well there website is down,i will update this later.
also the header that came with your swap more than likely will not mate to your cat, you might have to goto an exhaust shop to have them add some length.

dont be affraid to give the frame a good hammer treatment to make room for alternator..also cut off the front mount on the cross member so it doesnt hit your block..other than that, giva hell its a awesome swap
quick question.. i need a new set of spark plug wires, and my friend has a set from his b18c1... that should work, correct?
did any of you run into problems that you didn't anticipate? example-having to buy more parts, stuff like that....
the front mount bracket, i didnt know about it until i had the motor in the bay and i pulled the motor back out, and i didnt know you could just undo the cross member, its only held on by 6 bolts
anyhow that is covered in my swap guide, that and the header that came with my swap wouldnt mate, the collector was opposite directions of my cat and it was too short, i ended up using a 00 si b16a header, im not using that header anymore, soo if you end up needing it and want it, i can send it, you pay 25 for my time and whatever it cost to ship

Is the origional motor out already? What motor mounts did you get? How about your throttle and clutch cable? I would get new radiator and coolant hoses. The origional rear motor mount is a PITA. A jig saw or a saw-zall will take care of it fairly quick.
Edit: you already have the hoses right? Hope you got B-series ones.

Soak all the engine mount bolts and nuts with penetrating oil before you try to take them off. Also, as for the cat bolts, soak them too. My exhaust was a little too short, but I had someone push forward on the muffler and I managed to bolt it up.

What about the clutch cable? I have the right throttle cable...havent read up about a different clutch cable...
Cool, sounds like your very prepared unlike some people
. I was wondering if the motor was out to see if you have removed that rear mount. Like I said earlier a electric saw will help get that bastard out. I have the HCP motor mount kit myself. I know all about it. It's a great kit. The front mount will be the last one installed. To install it you are going to need to remove the front crossmember (4 bolts). Its easier to work on it that way. Get you a cutting whell and do like the instructions say. Shave off 1/4 from the front mount and test fit it. If it rubs the tranny shave another 1/4". I believe I shaved a 1/2" or so. Then your going to need to test fit again with the mount bolted up and mark were the new bolthole will be. Drill new hole and bolt it all up. Cutting wheel will take care of the shaving very quick. I recomed painting after you shave it to prevent rust/corrosion. Also on the rear mount you have to bend the front edge of the rear crossmember down so the rear brack doesn't rub. I cut 2 slits and pounded the lip down. Paint that too. Did you get a teg rear bracket? Did you get a teg throttle cable? Thats the only one that will "bolt-on". I modified my CRX cable to fit. I also modified the clutch cable. Check out this web page at the bottom it talk's about it. Hit up the tech section then B16a install. http://www32.brinkster.com/tjshondas/

Ok, i got the old motor pulled... now i have a dilemma, and i didnt think of it until now, when its time to drop the new motor in. I got this motor off of a friend, he was using it in a 92-95 civic, so the tranny mount bolts are not the same for mine vs. what he was using; the actual bolts are what I need(the side tranny mount, not the front one), but I have no clue what to order them from. I was thinking a 94 Del Sol VTEC but i wasnt sure. I also need the rear bracket mount bolts as well, as I do not have them. Im stuck.. help! What bolts do i order? I have the bolts for the driver side mount, but not the rear backet mount or the side tranny mount. I'm using HCP mounts(dont think that matters or varies from HAsport or Place Racing though).
what a bunch of ******* bullshit. Now, since I got the motor from a friend who had the motor in the 92 civic hatch, i didnt realize that he had a 94 integra mount(the part that goes into the actual block with the two forks that come up) on the motor for it to work with his car, so now i have to get one off of a 90-93 integra tomorrow morning at the junkyard. This swap is just not going the way i thought it was going to go. I'm never buying a motor off of a friend again unless its out of the same chassis. Too much of a pain in the ***. i'll keep you guys updated on how it goes from here.
which mount do you need? the timing belt side one or the rear mount??
b/c i have the rear mount if you need it

That is how a swap goes. It's sweat blood and tears. Once you have the motor running, it's a whole other story. Just remember before you put the new motor in, Hammer the **** out of the fender wall so the alt. can go in.
Hang in there, you have just started on a very long journey... Good luck and calm down.

ok, now im stuck with this completely. first of all, the crossmember rubs on the bottom of the tranny where the actuator is... the guy that had it before me was using it in a 92 civic hatch so i think it might be a hydro-cable actuator or something that i dont need, but im not sure. theres like a small skinny piece that comes down and rubs on the crossmember when i lower the motor in, and it wont go in all the way. plus, i hammered the **** out of the rear crossmember and the side framerail where it said to hammer and i guess i just didnt hammer enough because the rear bracket mount AND the alternator belt rub on the frame, so now i gotta take the whole damn thing out. Does anybody know about the piece on the tranny im talking about though? i dont have a digi, so i'll do my best to describe it. Theres a black bar with a loop that the cable for the clutch goes in, and, looking to the right, past that weight thats there, theres a piece that comes off of that lateral running bar that goes down... that piece is the piece that i think needs to come off that i dont need, and theres also a piece that goes up from that that looks like it has a fitting to attach a clutch fluid line, but my d15b2 didnt have one of those from what i could see, and i dont have a line like that to attach anything to...ugh.. i am not sure. if anybody has any pics of, or knows what the hell im talking about, lemmie know. anybody thats done this swap take a pic of their tranny and post it? that would prolly help.
