Heat Shield Painting
I want to do something with the stock heat shield in my 97 Civic HX. It's rusty. Can i safely paint it with some hi-temp paint? How about if i removed it altogether. What will it hurt?
get the extra high heat stuff, it 1200 degrees instead of 500, people do run without them, but obviously itll rase your engine bay temp. if you have a short ram or the such itll be sucking hotter air. my frind doesnt have one on his 94 si with a gsr, but he also has an aem cia

I took mine off for a while, and the engine bay was definately warmer. I stripped all the paint off of the heatshield and used some 500 degree Low Gloss Black paint. I put a few coats on and its been about a month now, still looks great.

I have done this several times...The only way to get it to stick is to use a wire wheel prior to paint to give the paint something to bite on to.
I've done it both ways...One with, and one without the wire wheel.
The wire wheel heat shield has looked the same for over a year now.
