I've been quoted a prices of anywhere between 400-700.

I decided it would be cheaper to paint the side modling instead of removing them and having a body shop bondo the holes etc.

Depends on the car. If your moldings are part of your fender, door, and quarter panel, obviously it will cost more. To fill in the holes should roughly cost $25 to $50 bucks a hole. To paint the front fenders on both sides of an older car, you should probably paint the front bumper and hood, just to blend it in. Then you're talking about the door and quarter panel... That's a lot of work.

Body Shops will charge a lot just for painting pieces here and there while they are still on the car. Believe it or not, it's almost easier (less time consuming) to shoot the whole car the same color. If you're painting that much on an older car, you might as well reshoot the entire car. It also depends on color. Certain colors are easier to blend (a big factor when it's an older car) and certain colors are harder. Have any pics? A quality same color paint job should be in the neighborhood of $1500.

Note: These are Southern California prices. HTH.

I guess i should have clarified .....i have mouldings on my car that have been painted to match (audi amythist pearl) .....I want the mouldings gonzo and the holes filled in and painted amythist. No painting of fenders or anything but the holes should be required

thanx for the comments...keep em coming ......and I got my entire car painted for less then 4-700

depending on how "janky" or good the shop is. some places will not fill in the holes and spray only the molding parts, especially if its' a custom color, just because of overlapping. it shouldn't cost too much to fill in the holes...it doesn't take that long. i wouldn't pay more than 150 for the filling. shaving off the moldings (like i'm doing) costs about $1000 for welding, bondo, and etc. painting and clear coat will almost cost as much as a full paint job ranging from "player price" = $300 to "ballin out of control" = $800-$1200... good luck!!!

Right. I realize that you want to get rid of your moldings and have your car look like a cx.. But if you take out the molding, fill the hole, you're going to have to repaint the whole body section where the hole is being filled is. So you'll have to paint the door, fender, etc..
