Default Colder plugs or not so colder plugs, that is the question.

I have always heard that NGK ZFR7F-11 spark plugs were 2 step colder plugs for my B16. My friend brought to my attention that they are only one step colder. Stock plugs = http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDeta...Number=PFR6L13. So my question is, next time I go into Adv. Auto, do I need to ask for the 8 series in order to get a 2 step colder plug? It was importparts.com that suggested the 7 series plug in the first place. http://importparts.com/ Customer service>Drag gen 3 installation manual

7's are what you need.
I believe the manual calls for 5's or 6's (depending on your driving).
I'm runing 7's on mine....8's would be to cold for low boost

yeah I figured this was the best for my low boost app. I haven't had any problems so far with the 7 series, but in my Haynes manual it says 6 series is stock for the B16A2.

It also calls for a platinum plug.
7's are fine

Works for me. Wasn't planning on changing. Everything is working out great now. Why change anything right?

I always run 7 series plugs. specifically the bcpr7es11, .032 gap. Alot of 5-600whp high boost hondas run these same plugs, just a tighter gap.

I run the ZFR7F-11 (adv. auto part number for those same plugs you use). I use a .030 gap.

When i went to get my s200 tuned i put in 8 series NGK's because i was planning on running high boost on c16. I ended up only running 1 bar on pump gas because on a wastegate problem but i made 325whp with the 8's. Would the hondata tune be affected if i changed to NGK 7's for only running 1 bar?

Im using Denso Iridium IK16's @.030 in my Turbo GSR @ 9psi. Using a AEM EMS, I see no knock, even under full bost, even while on a 2mile road course. And EGT's stay the same as when I had NGK 7 series in. The IK16's = 5 series NGK's.

Also if you run an aftermarket igntion, it will melt the electrodes.

Try starting a new thread in either the FI or Tech board about this. Maybe you will get more help when that is the subject of the thread. Just helping.

I have run the BKR7e's in my JRSC setup on a stock engine @9psi for 68,000 miles and no problems yet. also to whoever posted the 6's were listed in the manual in my helms factory service manual it says stock plugs are bkr5e's not 6's

Yes, the amount of timing retard will need to be adjusted because the charge will run hotter. You may offset that by adding slightly more fuel, but in general, if you tuned it perfect with 8's then it will run slightly leaner/hotter when you switch to 7's.

Did you tune it to the theshold? I doubt it. So you will be fine with the switch since you tuned it conservatively on the AF side.

I running some NGK BKRE7-----11's. I think it's gapped at a tad lower than stock gap on my 99 SI, which I think is like .40.. I think it's at .38 for the time being. yes I know it's should be lower, it will be when I get the car tuned in about 2 days.

I dont have my race motor for my honda together yet but I do run 7 series in my 4g63 with .028 gap@20psi. I was blowing spark out with anything above .030.

Weird because last night my friend checked again in his Helm's manual, and it agreed with my Hayne's manual about the Si running PR*6** stock. I don't think it matters either way because everyone and their mother runs 7 series NGK plugs on their FI cars. oh well.....
