Default DIY Lower Rear Tie-Bar (LCA Tie-bar)

Hello everyone. A week or two ago I made a DIY rear lower tie-bar which mounts onto the lower control arms. For how much this DIY mod costs (~$20), I definitely got to say that it is worth the time and effort! The results were impressive. I think this bar works just as good, if not better, as an aftermarket bar that you see going for the price of ~$150. I think that its only downfall is that is isn't bling blingin' like most aftermarket bars but that doesn't bother me. My car is lowered so no one is even going to see it unless they drop to a knee.

Here are some random pictures:

For the full imagestation album, click here.

I could feel the results the most when making quick transit movements from left>right>left; the *** end of the chassis held strong and sold. I was amazed at how much of a difference a bar mounted down there would actually make. I mean, knew it would produce some adequate results but the results I got were unexpected. This mod rocks!

I wrote a indepth "How To" article for this modification at team-integra.net, so if you are interested in doing it, click here.

Cheers!

Hah yeah, the DC sports bars are pretty much crap when it comes to performance.

Is that bar hollow?

Steel or aluminum?

Where did you buy the bar from?

Why do the bolts stick out so much? BTW we can't log into your imagestation account. Otherwise GJ

That was just a picture of the bar almost mounted on the subframe. The finial result doesnt have the bolts sticking out like that lol. Maybe I should get a close up.

Here some some new pictures...

Very Cool DIY!
I'm wondering, though, if prolonged use may add undue stress to those LCA bolts? It seems to me that as the chassis tries to flex, it may put stress on the outer part of those bolts and maybe bend them a bit. I'm still gonna spend the $20-30 to try it out. That's minimal investment if it improves the handling as good as you say it does.
Excellent DIY instructions too

I did this mod Sunday, all the parts were about 18 bucks, my bar was unpainted and look sort of gunmetalish so I coated it with clear coat and went with it like that. Very nice mod for the cost noticed a tighter rear end. Biggest prob was gettin the control arm lined up to put the bolt in other than that and drilling a 3/8 hole in a solid steel bar it was a very easy job. I would definately advise doing this mod.

Where did you get the bar? I checked out McMaster.com ( BSQ), but it looks like about $25 shipped for a steel bar.

Yes! Getting that bolt through both the bar, subframe, LCA, and then out the back of the subframe is a tedious job. It does take some "play time." Wouldn't happen to have any finished pictures MobBoss... Would ya?

By the way, thank you for all the compliments. I appreciate it.

I purchased my solid steel bar locally for $1.50/ft. I would advice that you open up your phone book to the "metals" section and do some calling around. A little bit of effort sure can save you some $$$ in the end.

Would this bar work with a 22mm ITR rear swaybar with the BSQ kit?

Yes it will, but you are going to have to space the bar out further so you can clear the BSQ reinforcement kit. Most likely, you are going to have to space it out about a full inch, but I'm not too sure.

btw, if you do space the bar out, the bolt recommended in the article will still be long enough for you.

If you have any more questions, feel free to shoot!
