My JDM VTEC ZC motor won't start! HELP!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I might have totally screwed this up, which is why I need your help. I've done SOME research and knew enough that the JDM wiring harness wouldn't work when i swapped in a SOHC VTEC ZC motor into my 95 Civic CX (D15B7) hatch. I have read posts in the past that said all you need to do is take wiring harness off your USDM engine, and plug all the wires into the JDM motor, wire the VTEC, hook up into the JDM computer and you should be a go. However, i have NO ignition. I'm not getting any power to the plugs. The ZC motor is basically the same as a D16Z6 over here, and my USDM CX harness matched up perfectly except for ONE clip at the back of the intake manifold. I also have the JDM ecu with the motor. I opened up my distributor and i had 12 volts in there so i don't know what to do. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong??? Thanks.
wow good choice for the motor i got the d15b vtec from japan a slight difference from the one u have...i also had a hard time starting it...i ditch the distributor that came with the motor and used a d16z6 that was running b4 so i knew it was werking...if ur distributor has power check the cap and rotor and replace....u should do this anyways cause they are very old and oxidized...then check ur wires...u should try to see if the end of the wire where it connects to the spark plugs have spark and aldo use fresh plugs if u havnt done so...i used a usdm p28 to run my motor and no probs yet....and that plug in the back for the IAB i left off at first until i got a code for it...then i just cut the plug a lil so it would fit on....good luck...so replace cap, rotor, plugs, wires if needed...u should be fine...o whick distributor u running
first try to use your ECU P06 ecu to start the car. then if that fails, move on to the distributor and move over the igniter and coil over. if that faisl check the electical again, make sure everything is plugged in especially ground wires.
Thanks for the info eg6turbo. I like your choice of motor also. My D15B7 was a terrific motor, had it go 16.7 in the quarter with just intake, header and exhaust(at 1700 feet alt). Anyway, the distributor that's on the motor right now is the one that came with it from japan. I'm definitely starting to think it's the problem. I phoned my parts guy here in town and he also said it's probably the destributor. I towed the poor thing home yesterday and will do all the checks that you recommended next week. I was even told to try the distributor off my D15B7, and then if it works just make sure you match up the timing for the new motor. Thanks for your help guys!!!!!
You guys kick ***. It turned out to be a faulty coil in the distributor. You guys saved me $$$$$ and I thank you. All i had to do was swap the coil from my D15B7 to the ZC. I'm now a proud owner of a (working) Civic CX Hybrid. I plan on leaving it looking the same (16 inch rims, GForce Coil Overs), so goofs in Cavaliers will think i'm a stock 1.5, then get thier asses handed to them. God I can't wait. Thanks again for the help.
