IAT Sensor Problem... can it be a short or am i doing something wrong?
Ok, I had a blown IAT sensor and bought a new one about a week ago. I tried to install it today but the blew out on me again and also blew a fuse in my fuse box. I have no idea what the hell is going on and I sure as hell do not want to buy a new IAT sensor and have that blow out. My question to you is, I do not currently have an intake tube installed on my car because of the recent head swap. I did the mini swap and kept the filter only on the throttle body and thought if I put the sensor in the filter over the tb it would work. It didnt and now I'm stumped. Did the heat from the tb cuase it to blow out? How the hell does the sensor end up melting from the inside out? Did I install the sensor incorrectly which caused it to blow? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again in advance.
You should get a multimeter and check the leads on wires of the iat. The iat is not suppose to melt from the inside out, most likely a short somewhere witch is a big headache to find
. Even if you switched the wires around it should work properly, so it can not be that.

check for voltage and it was good. Are they heat sensitive? Maybe the metal on the trottle body caused it to melt? I'm going to try to install an intake and a new IAT sensor to see what happens. I just wanted to find out if anyone else ever experienced this before.
Is your IAT sensor in you intake tube or the manifold itself? If it is just in the tube try plugging the hole and let it hang out for now and see if it blows. I highly doubt that is melting or anything along those lines. What motor you got? My IAT sensor is tucked away and not plugged into my intake tube. No CEL and it runs fine.
Sorry did not read the entire post you made. Try just letting it hang out.

The sensor is at the opening of the throttle body and a filter over it. I dont have an intake tube at the moment which is why I was just putting it where the throttle body is. When I just let it hang its fine. But once I put it in the throttle body and rev it up alittle it blows.
Did you have to do any hard wiring on anything? it being that close will not make it heat up and blow. I have never heard of that sensor blowing either. It has to be a short or wire open touching something or some ****. I dont know whats up. If you let it hang it is fine? Well just hide it and let that thing hang.
I let it hang and it didnt blow but once I put the sensor in where the tb and filter is it blew. The whole point of the intake air temp sensor is to see how cold or warm the air temp is and adjust the air/fuel mixture right? I tested the circuit and the sensor before I put it on and it was fine.
