Default lsvtec reliability

in everyone's opinion on ls vtec. with a 95 ls block and a 00 type R head wit complete valvetrain n cams n manifold and pistons, what else would be needed to keep the motor from detonating????i have heard horror stories about ls vtecs blowing and i dunt wanna gamble on that cost unless its a pretty good chance that it will not blow. any help is thankful

depends on how its built, you can have a completely stock head and block and still detonate.

Build it right and it's just as reliable as any other Honda motor.

why.....thousands of people have and they have been just as reliable as anyother b series.

the only thing is you have to know what you are doing

Of the LS/VTEC's that blow up, it's usually because of over-revving (rod bolts stretch and let go), or poor build, meaning the person that assembled the set up did so incorrectly. My roommates 93 LS block, with B16 head, ITR pistons, CTR cams, bolts ons, etc, has lasted 2.5 years, with no problems.

You can't just throw a VTEC head onto a LS block and expect it to be 100% reliable. There are plenty of other considerations you need to look at before going LS/VTEC.

Built right it costs just as much to go straight vtec motor and bore it out to 2.0 or putting a turbo on a straight LS/CRV motor.

All depends on what you are looking for.

I nmy experience very few people can build a LS/Vtec or CRV/TEC that will last (Esp. as long as Rodrez's friend).

I agree. In Diego, when they first started getting popular back in the day, they were blowing left and right, because no one had the knowledge that it took to build them correctly. The guy that built my roommates motor, builds them quite often, without any problems. He doesn't cut any corners, and is very thorough.
