Tie rod or wheel bearing..
I just swapped si axles and hubs on my new CRX..
some how HF axles, hubs and brakes ended up on a si..and I needed to replace a very bad axle, and I had SI axles and I could pick hubs off a part out car, so I went all the way..
Now I have a bad shudder, on my pass side during braking, and it clunks over bumps in the road. Braking is horrible.
the Tie rod has a little play, but it wasn't a problem before.
When I shake the wheel it moves a bit back and forth..
How can I diagnose whether ot not its the Wheel bearing or tie rod?
thanks in advance.

Would be more inclined to say it was my steering rack if it did this before I swapped axles, and hubs.. I didn't touch the Steering rack..
But its only after I swapped everything that this happened..

tie rodis my guess. i have replaced all 4 hub assemblies w/ in the last 6months & i replaced the passenger side tie rod, now the sound is back-it has to be the driver side tie rod- i knew I shhopuldn't of half assed it-oh well.
Does your steering wheel not quite straight when youre driving down the road in a straight line and does it feel like theres some play when you switch lanes?
it's the hub man. my hatch did the same thing. you could grab the wheel and move it back and fourth and you could kick it and it would make like a " clink" noise. try the hub bearing. i had a dx hatch and i put a spindle off a 91 Si hatch on there and it cleared the problem right up. good luck!

Here's what you do. Jack up that side of the car. Shake the wheel.
If you feel some play left and right, then it's most likely the tie rod.
If you feel some play up and down, then either the ball joints or wheel bearings.
It's easiest if one person is shaking the wheel, and someone else is under taking a look at what's actually moving.

Grab the tire at the top and bottom and push/pull. If there is play then its the wheel bearing. No play, not wheel bearing. Next grab the tire at the front and back and push/pull. If there is play then it is most likely the tie rod end either inner (less likely) or outer (more likely) I had the same noise/vibration. Replaced outer tie rod ends and problem went away. Be sure to check the alignment after replacing the ends. A good starting point t get back to near the perviois alignment is to count the number of turns to remove the ends and screw them back on the same number of turns. This will be close but you should have it checked anyway.
It ended up being a severly warped rotor..
Go figure..I thought I was getting a clean set of rotors..but I guess not..
My tie rod is a tiny lose so if I happen to see one I will toss on a new one..
found out the hub is bent too.. a friend is putting on EX knuckles so I will put on his stock ones..
thanks
