Is a 2000 DX SOHC, 1.6L block be the same as a 92 SI SOHC VTEC block? I am only talking about blocks here as i am trying to put the 2000 motor into a 92 civic. Trying to figure out what mounts will i need to use. Thanks.

yes the block are pretty much identical, yes you can swap in a y7 or y8 into a EG or EF. tranny will work as well
I was wondering the same thing. Are they identical, or almost? I have wanted to work with a d16y8/z6 block, but if a DX, CX block are available is it really just as good? Are there any differences that make the EX/Si blocks better?
NO!! they are not identical, the drivers side torque mount with not bolt up to the 96-up blocks, only three of the bolt holes line up!. and the rear main seal housings are not interchangable between them..
I know all of this because i have a 98 D16Y8 in my 94 hatch!

Oh yeah and also the 96-up have the dipstick built into the oil pump housing, and the 92-95 have them in front of the block, i had to drill the block i have, and make the dipstick tube from a 92-95 fit it.

ok, you wont have to worry about the dipstick issue if you are using the whole motor,, and the #8 mount is fine, the mount that doesnt fit is the mount that fits on the driver side front of the engine, it is the mount that the AC Comp. bolts to.
Right now i have Si mounts from a 92-95.

To avoid all confusion, use all the mounts and mount brackets from the corresponding vehicle that the motor is going into. IE, all the mounts from the EG, including block mount brackets should be used with the y7/y8 block.
Same goes for EF civics too.

why?? the Eg mount doesnt fit the Y7-Y8 block properly so why use it??
I would think you should try to use the mounts that fit the corresponding motor.

well i have a D16Y8 block into a 94 CX and the damn mount that the AC condensor hooks to did not fit perfectly..
Also i put a 95 motor into a 97 DX and the mount from the 97 did not fit perfectly either..........on the 95 block!
So either you have #1) special honda mounts, or #2) you dont know what you are talking about and #3) you are using the mount from the 96-up motor.
