Default Carsound Cat Model for JDM header apps (53 vs 94)

so i ordered a carsound and they sent me the wrong app. instead of the oval series (94066/93506) that everyone seems to use, including SMSP:

they sent me a 53006 series, which is still 2.5" in/out:

i've done a search with no luck. rather than go thru the trouble of sending my cat out and getting the oval one... i am wondering if anyone has knowledge as to which cat is freer flowing. is there anything WRONG with using the 53 series as opposed to the 94? will the 53 series cylinder style even fit? i was thinking of taking the one i've got (53006) to an exhaust shop and having them make the flanges so that it will bolt up. is there any reason for me NOT to do this?

my application: 00 GSR, JDM ITR 4-1 header, 2.25" comptech catback.

Thanks guys!

53 series apparently has just as good, if not better flow characteristics, and its track record for blowing out seems to be better than the oval 94 series.

if you have an 00-01 GSR, 94-01 LS/GS/ITR, either one can be used. if you have a 94-00 GSR, you should use the 53 series and have an exhaust shop make it fit.

whenever you buy the carsounds, an exhaust shop will need to make flanges and possibly extend them anyways. if you're too lazy, i'd suggest giving dave at SMSP a call (H-T username: SMSP) and let him know your exact application and he will custom make the cat complete with flanges so it will bolt up right away.

i've decided to keep my 53 series and just go get it custom fitted at an exhaust shop.

Actually, i have the 53 series right now. I like it better than the 94 because it's shorter so the exhaust would have to go through less crap. Anyway, i had a 94 series on the car before and i didn't feel that much of a difference but the 53 made my car accelerate smoother.

I asked you because i wanted to know if it's just me or there's a real difference between those 2. Thanks man.
