Hi guys,

Ok I just ordered some escta's 712 on tirerack due the to good reviews and positvie feedback on honda-tech. Can anyone who owns kumho 712's let me know what the average lifespan of the tires are?

Thanks

Just mounted mine about a week ago. So far I'm impressed
with their performance. I even got to test them in the rain, very good
wet traction. Although its not the best tire out there I think they're the best bang
for the buck.

yea, for the money they're decent. And on my old rims, I had those tires on for about 7 months and the tread hardly wore down at all.

Alignment is key.

I had nearly 13k on my Kuhmo's and they had more than half tread left. There were no signs of camber wear. My car is lowered nearly 2.5" all the way around and has -1.0 degree of camber.

Alignments play a keyrole in tire wear.

for people who are impressed with kumho 712's, its time to try out some better tires. i've ran several tires over my import hobby timeline and i'd rate the kumho's towards the bottom. i bought my rims used and they came with the kumhos... as soon as they hit 50% treadwear they are coming off.

i just dont understand... people are willing to drop serious cash on nice rims but they dont want to invest in good tires. if handling and performance are important, people need to be springing for better tires. kumho dry weather performance isnt that great and in rain its horrible. the only tires i've driven on which are worse in wet are nitto nt555's. for people who are contemplating the 712 ecstas, treat yourself and pick up a set of dunlop sp9000's. best tires i've used to date... and if i had the cash for michelin pilot sports or bridgestone s02/s03 i'm sure i'd be singing their praises too.

Andrew, I will assure you that a Kuhmo Ecsta 712 will OUTLAST the Pilot Sport, S02, S03, and the SP9000. Although they will not perform the same, they will get you the miles you want.

I sell the ALL the tires mentioned above and none of the owners EVER see past 17K and thats a fact for as long as Ive been working with http://www.ntb.com (with the exception of the 712)

Im sure if we ALL had cash, we would be better off with a better handling tire like the Pilot Sport and the S03 but who does, unfortunately, we all own Honda's and most of our pockets arent deep. I speak for some and not for all.

Ive ran SP9000 on my vehicles before. To tell you the truth, I should have gone for the 712's back then. This tire was NOT all that as you had stated. Tread life sucks!

i guess he was asking about tread life... so thats my bad. i was speaking strictly from a performance standpoint, and that was also my personal opinion.

i got very good treadlife out of my sp9000's but perhaps that is because i dont burn out at every stoplight trying to race 88 accords with apex dunks on them. and the kumho's were used when i got them so i cant speak very accurately on how long they will last under what driving conditions. i thought the treadlife on the dunlops were pretty decent... not like azenis or yok's

WORD!! I would have to agree with alot of what this man says. But alot of you guys talk about bang for the buck, now if you wanted the car with the best power/buck you wouldn't have bought a honda/acura. You should be driving aroudn your used mustangs and camaros that you can pick up for real cheap used and been way faster.

So if you want tires that last long why don't you go to firestone and get 4 tires for $100 or so and keep your alignment in check. I have Kuhmo 712 now and I would have to say they did not live up to anything anyone said.

So for anyone who thinks these tires are good, go save your money and get something worthwhile if you want to perform well. Got my 205-50-15 SO-3's on the way from tire rack myself and I have felt the performance of these tires and they are one of the best in the market.

Well, if you are speaking from a performance aspect, why didnt you include the Kuhmo Victoracer? Those would SERIOUSLY own the SP9000 ANY day and costs are similiar.

Besides, who cares about tread life from your point of view?

never tried the victoracer... i only speak from the standpoint of the tires i've actually used. that probably makes my opinion pretty biased hehe

I've got the 712's and after 5 autocrosses and about 3500 miles, they are still looking pretty good. I plan on running those tires for this entire summer and AI'm still waiting to put them back on since winter is still in effect here in Colorado. I ran the 712's from the end of August to the middle of October and have been autocrossing them over the winter.

They are by far the best performing tire out there. However, they are the best performing tire for the money out there. Another great tire to look at is the yoko AVS100. A friend of mine just got them and I would say the performance is better than the 712's, plus the looks of the Yoko kick the 712's *** (which doesn't account for much)!

I'll answer any other questions you have about those tires

Yes I personally know 2 people that had the 712's then got the AVS ES100's, and they both said the Yoks are immensly better. I was going to get the 712's but based on their experiences, I went with the AVS ES100's. I only got to drive on them for about a day before my car went to the body shop, but so far I can say about these Yokohamas.

You also might want to look into the Kumho MX. Not nearly as expensive as a pilot sport or s-03, and still manage very respectable levels of dry grip. I'm also not a huge fan of the 712, but the MX is much better. OK in the wet, too.

i dont know how good toyo proxes are new which i would think are better new..but i have them on my car bought it with them on it..they have a bout 30 / 40 percent thread left but still dont break loose, squeel, slide in the rain, and i push it to test these worn tires limits....for a pretty used up tire the stil perfom pretty damn good i must say...makes me want to buy the same set new...i dont want to spend 500 bucks on new tires mounted balanced and aligned and was looking at the bang for the buck tires mention here...but need good dry and wet traction...any suggestions and price to go along with it is appreciated....i guess arond the 400 to 500 dollar mark or cheaper even better..wont mind spending the higher amount if worth it but looking for a lower cost rain/dry performance tire....thanks..

Treadwear # is not consistent in telling you the lifespan of the tire. Dont always go by it because sometimes its not always true.

Kuhmo 712z
1 year still going

I drive on my kumho 712z every day .. i prob drive 15-20k miles a year .. i rarely peel out.. but i do drive my honda hard .. i have good alignment and camber kits

from the looks of the tread.. i should be able to make it to the end of the year or more ... so mine should be 1.5years+

good advice

the treadwear is only for comparing tires of the same brand. You can't use the treadwear # when comparing lets say the azenis and the kumho 712's

why not? 100 treadwear is some kind of government rating, and tire treadwear is supposed to be represented in reference to the gov't rating. What do they do, just slap some number on there?
