Turbo LS Smart in AZ??
Hey im moving to AZ in a few months, and i was thinking of building a turbo LS before/when im out there... anyone think against this idea?? and is humididty good for turbos or not?
AZ isn't humid at all. Just the heat will toast your *** in your car. During summer and peak hrs of heat it makes the car feel really, really sluggish. That's why everyone comes out at night when it cools down. I'm doing it anyways.
What part of Arizona? Humidity isn't a problem, its the heat. If you live in Phoenix, it isn't unnormal for a 115+ degree day in the summer. Tucson has about 105-115 degree days. Depends where you are going to live, tuning is very important, but heat kills turbo motors.

im going to be moving to scottsdale tempe area. im going to scottsdale CC for school for a semester, then going to ASU.. but im coming back to IL for the summers... so the summers dont bother me at all. aside from the car itself, how is the import/racing scene out there, and where does alotta **** go down, and also what are some good shops out there that i can pick some stuff up from?
ud be better off running an air to water intercooler
I'm frlom the scottsdale area and am like 90% done with my turbo. All you have to do is just set ur boost a little bit lower durring the day or just tune the hell out of it.

do you have an LS now? or are you thinking of putting an ls swap into your civic and turboin it?
yeah, if you are putting a turboed LS motor in your civic, you might want to think about upgrading your radiator to a fullsized (integra style) koyo or fluidyne unit.

doesnt AZ have similar emission standards as CA, MA, ME? wouldnt a custom turbo be almost impossible to get past an emissions test?
i would think an H22 swap would be a better idea in a climate like that, stock motor so emissions is no problem and you can have almost equal performance to many turbo's and in some cases better and much more reliable

No.
Just make sure your car is equipped with all the emissions equipment it came with from the factory. "Visual inspection" in AZ is much more leniant than in California.

um... there is no visual inspection for az.
a Guy on hondasociety has a jdm h22 motor with a bright red VTEC valve cover. He went to emissions and when the hood was popped the guy had the print out of his car stating it was an prelude s, sohc non vtec, but there on the valve cover it says "dohc vtec" the guy at the emissions place didn't even do a thing about it.
All they do is the exhaust check to see if you're putting out too many hydrocarbons etc.

"visual inspection" as I used it is misleading.
There is not a "visual inspection" in AZ as in "that motor doesn't belong here!". I was referring to the emissions guy checking for all the necessary emissions equipment that should be on the car. The guy who did mine last couldn't even find the fuel return line until I pointed it out, and this is with a stock motor.
So... don't worry about emissions. I'd worry a lot more about the heat and tuning conservitively in the summer.

If you're OBD1, you just need to pass the sniffer and have emissions controls hooked up. You can even go through on a CEL. If you're OBD2, you pretty much just need to not throw a CEL and you'll be fine. It's not like you need a CARB EO or anything.
which was another thing i was really worried about. a turbo creates enough extra heat in the motor as is now throw in an ambient temp of 100+ and one youre not makin a lot of power and its real dangerous unless youve got some incredible tuning which i really wouldnt wanna be spending the dough on. a stock all motor all id really need to do is run amsoil, lean out the coolant mix and drive reasonably in the day time to be safe
