Default Upgrading from oem alarm on an R

I posted this in the alarm form, but didn't quite get an answer https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=433888
I have an oem alarm and want to upgrade it. I stopped by a shop that seemed pretty good. They are willing to customize the install to my prefences. However, I inquired about removal of the oem alarm. They told me they usually just leave them in. If it came from the factory, I could understand this being part of the car's factory wiring. Since the alarm is an accessory shouldn't it be removed? It seems half assed to leave it in. Has any anybody upgraded and had the oem unit removed?
Thanks

If you're talking about an ITR, no ITR came with an OEM alarm. It's just a keyless entry system from factory. You can install any aftermarket alarm to it and leave the keyless module in it. It won't interfere. You can put the factory keychains away and use in case you lose your alarm remotes or get locked out.

The alarm is a dealer accessory.

I have an aftermarket alarm in addition to my factory alarm. I use both, so that even if one is disabled, the other will go off. If I don't unlock them almost simultaneously, they will go apeshit.

There's no reason to remove the stock unit. My alarms are almost seperate entities, aside from what they monitor.
