Default Skunk2 short shifter install question

Ok, finally got some nice weather, so i put in my skunk2 SS today.....everything went in fine, but I coulnd't figure out where the hell the two washers included with the shifter were supposed to go. I tried to stick them next the to bearings, but there was not enough room with the spacer in there? Could someone with a Skunk2 shifter tell me where they are supposed to go? Do I even NEED them? Thanks

The two washers are supposed to go next to the bearings... Some people have had the same trouble, too... where the washers were too fat for the limited amount of space in there... and so they went and bought skinnier washers and it worked out perfect. My SS didn't come with any washers and so we added it in w/out them... but the SS would rattle (like loose coins) and it ANNOYED the **** out of me... so eventually I bought some washers and put those bad boys in and they worked out great.

so basically, if it doesn't rattle, you don't really need them?

a bit off topic, but you guys got pix of the Skunk2 SS installed? (like how it looks in the cabin, where the shift **** is located, etc?)

I'll have some as soon as I get access to a digital cam....

basically, it sits at about stock height, yet still reduces the throw in the gears. This is nice, cause it gives more leverage with the stock length. I have the skunk2 **** as well, with definately makes the shifts more positive.

I really like mine so far....its seems to shorten 1st, 3rd, and 5th the most, which is exactly what I wanted.

silverb18c1 has some pics up, check the archives... he has the same problem as I do with boot sag... he said he fixed it on his cousin's RSX by using some electrical tape. I haven't gotten around to doing that yet.

I put the washer on the outer parts of the bolt and the nut. I tried to fit it in there with the shifter, but there was no room. It works fine for me. I hate the sagging booth too. My question is where did you all put the round poly bushing? I got it with my shifter kit. I didn't use it, because I have no clue where it goes.

I installed my Skunk2 ss and ran into the same kinds of problems. There wasnt enough room for the spacer, and it rattles unless you fill that gap. What I eventually ended up doing was just putting about 15 washers or however many it took to make it a perfect fit, Now its silky smooth.

Later I cut the short shifter even lower and put a momo shift **** on

hope that helps, I sorted throgh washers to find the one that fit best at home depot.
had it on for about 6 months, no problems, no noise

took me 30-45 mins from start to finish to install my skunk2, but i had previously installed a B&M shifter before, so i knew exactly what i was doing.

with the slock shift **** you can't even tell you changed the shifter.....and the poly bushing goes on the tranny....push out the old one in the shift linkage....in with the new, like buttah!

The threading on the skunk2 is different than the stock shifter and wont fit anything except a skunk2 **** on the threading, although you can get the stock **** to force on because the threading in the stock **** is just rubber, if not a skunk2 you gotta get something like a momo **** that can clamp down on anything.

as far as "sagging" I dont really know what you mean, as far as I'm concerned the more it sinks down, the cooler it looks and the shorter the shift is.

As far as sagging, he's talking about how the shift boot will fall further down the shifter than stock, where it's flush against the shift ****. I took some electrical tape and wrapped it around the shifter several times, where I wanted the boot to rest, and when you I put the **** back on, it lined up like stock.

Crap, you mean the stock shift **** won't fit perfectly? Is there any other short shifter out there that's of comparable quality to the skunk2 that can fit a stock ****?

Or can someone tell me where the cheapest place is to buy just the skunk2 ****?

Tony: You can rethread your stock **** to fit on the skunk shifter. Also please PM me about our deal. I need to get it wrapped up before my friends B-day. thanks

Actually that is incorrect. I have the mugen shift **** on the skunk2 short shifter, and it fits perfectly. mugen thread pattern is the same as any oem honda thread pattern.

I had a regular aftermarket **** that i was going to use with my skunk2, fit perfectly on the stock shifter, but had a different thread than the skunk2, no way it would go on. Thats all I know, I put the stock **** on temporarily and when I removed it, there were bits and pieces of rubber that came out of the stock **** because the threading wasnt quite right. Thats what happend to me, if you have any other explination I'm open to it.

yeah I used the stock **** with no problem for about a month while I was waiting for my new shift **** to ship. It looked just like it did with the stock shifter, the threading problem didnt affect anything, i'm assuming it may cause a problem if for some reason I ever needed to put the stock shifter and shift **** back in, which will never happen.
