i am having a feeling i will need a new transmission soon, i got a 5 speed and going into gears it grinds sometimes (when the clutch is fully pushed to the floor) most of the time it is going into first, second, and third, and very rarly fouth gear. does anyone else have this problem? are there aftermarket transmission out there for my car? how much would this problem cost me, stock trans, used, and aftermarket? Thanx, Shaun
It does sound like you have some bad synchros.
Unfortunately there are no aftermarket (affordable ones that is) transmissions or transmission parts such as synchros for our cars.
What kind of tranny? The stock EX one?
I'd begin to look for a replacement low-mileage used tranny if I were you. The parts alone to rebuild yours will far exceed the price of a good low-mileage tranny.

before actually spending the money on a new tranny first try changing out the fluid. Sometimes fluid can have shavings in it. Plus like 20 bucks for some fluid is better then a whole bunch for a tranny.

A simple tranny fluid change will not solve serious internal damages such as grinding gears.
Hmmm..... If you can't figure it out, I have a 96 DX tranny. I wanted to sell it as a package deal with my stock motor. But if you really need it I'll sell it to you. I don't know if you would want a DX tranny on your EX motor, unless you like long gear ratios.
yeah i have the same problem....third gear is the worst...i think honda should recall the y8 trannies like they did the automatic trannies in the newest preludes.....i have heard a lot of peeps havin' problems with these trannies.....my second gear doesn't want to take it sometimes and third it grinds going in everytime and sometimes it will spit it out like second gear does.....

How many more times will I have to say this in this lifetime:
CHANGING TRANNY FLUID WILL NOT HELP YOU AT ALL IF YOUR TRANNY IS ALREADY GRINDING.
As far as SOHC trannies, they are pretty weak. Cast aluminum shift forks break easily unlike B-Series case-hardened steel ones.
Think of th miles you guys have on those trannies - American trannies would not last that long in the FF configuration.
