Dude, where's my brakes?
Just as the topic states...
Last night, I was headed over to a fine female friend that I've been hanging out with lately. I was already a little late, and this was the last thing I needed at the time (or ever!)
My rear brakes have been making some awful grinding noises for almost 2 weeks. I really haven't had the time or money to fix the problem. I planned on replacing the rotors and pads within the next week or so, but now it looks like there will be more than that involved.
I was driving around 40mph, and had to slow down for a car that was turning. When I applied my brakes, I heard a strange metallic 'clang' that came from the rear brakes. Wondering wtf this was, I kept pumping the brake pedal, and the noise kept happening. Suddenly... the pedal goes to the floor, without much hesitation. So, I keep pumping them... NOTHING. No brakes. ****. I downshifted to slow myself down, and pulled off onto a side road. Called the lady friend and told her I'd be running a few minutes late. Call me crazy, but I didn't have the time to wait for a towtruck, so I decided to limp the Gizzer home, downshifting to come to a stop (actually, if you put the brakes to the floor as hard as you could, they aided in stopping the car).
I'm wondering wtf happened. All I could smell after I got my car home was brake fluid. The rear driver's side wheel well had it splashed everywhere. I'm guessing either a brake line broke, or a seal let go. Any ideas guys? It might be a few days before I can start taking my car apart, it's way too damn cold here for that kind of stuff. I plan on doing all the work myself. TIA.

You should probably take the time to inspect your car when you hear odd noises. Consider yourself lucky that you or no one else got hurt when you finally ran out of brake pad.
You probably popped a brake line. Take a look, it only takes 2 minutes. I don't recall a time that I ever had the time to wait for a tow truck... but you have to make the time. It's not worth putting your life, or everyone/anyone elses life at risk just so you manage to make a bit of time to see this girl. If she's worth anything then she'll understand.
