Just tonight, my car started seems to be misfiring and it hesitates when I accelerate. I also hear a lot of backfire out of the exhaust. Any ideas what might be causing the problem.

I just cleaned the engine and sprayed it down w/ water(had dist. and air filter covered) if this could have anything to do with it. Any help is really appreciated.

 

you covered your distributor but probably not your spark plug wires and water got down into where the plugs are.. take out all of your wires and maybe your plugs and shove a paper towel down (or use air if you have it).. should work
