Suspension advice? Whats best for race/street?
Ok guys im looking to upgrade my suspension, i am looking for dirt cheap setup. I wanna go skunk 2 coilovers but first off here is what i want, i want lowered look but with nice stiffness for racing, i dont wanna bounce around like a lowrider but i dont wanna feel every single ant i run over. I also dont wanna worry about bottoming out my car. My friend got some ground control coilovers and it totally screwed up his ride, he bounced around every pothole he hit, and every time we went up a steel driveway it would bounce is front end up and then crashing down onto the pavement, i wnat my ride to keep the same height all the time and so i want stiffness, but enough to keep my soda from spilling iside my car. Can you guys offer me a nice cheap setup, key word here is cheap!
Sounds like your friends shocks were shot. If you need adjustability, coilovers will do you. But let me tell you from experiance, a good set of lowering springs will always ride just a little better than coilover sleeves. For maximum comfort, go with springs. Also, definatly upgrade your struts, or you'll end up like your friend after a few months. You might want to skip lunch for a week or so, and spend the extra few bucks on adjustables, so you can always set them the way you want. I have KYB AGXs on my CRX, and i'm happy with them. They were a little too stiff at first even on the softest setting, but they broke themselves in after time. Its only a few bucks more, but they're worth it. I have Intrax 2.5" springs mated to them, and i'm happy with them as well. If you want to go cheap, for gods sake dont go TOO cheap. I wasted $150 on cheap coilovers, and i couldn't stand them.
Just a few suggestions.

Hey thanks for the good word. Now that i think about it i think your right, his shocks were dead. I have decided on tokico premium performance shocks and skunk 2 coilovers, i really like the coilovers, and i could simply buy the skunk 2 drag launch springs for drag use. What do you think about this setup, my friends sellin me his skunk 2 coilovers for 200 bucks, only have like 2 weeks use. and the tokico shocks are only like 230 for all 4.
Sounds like that would ride pretty good. As for the drag launch springs, you can get the same effect with adjustable shocks. Hell of a lot easier too. All i gotta do is turn the little dial on the top of the shock, and no ripping apart my suspension. If i set mine to the hardest setting, those things get so stiff they barely budge. You could drop the car off a jack and they still barely move. Do yourself a favor, and spend the extra couple bucks for them. If the tokicos are too much, consider the KYB AGXs. They're cheaper but i like them, and have heard good things about them. Also, the non-adjustable KYB GR-2s even have a lifetime warranty. Cant beat that with a stick.
Yeah i was really looking hard at the adjustable ones really hard, my main thinking behind non adjustable ones is that when it comes time to replace them it wont have to shell out so much money, but i think your right, i am probably gonna go with adjustable ones nad just bite the bullet. Is the ride improved a lot with these? How easy are they to adjust? Can you feel a huge difference? Good track/street use? the kyb agx shocks look good and are pretty cheap, what do you think about the tokico illumina shocks? Which are best, price wise it seems the tokico illuminas are more expensive but would they both be about the same quality?
One of the few companies that actually sells adjustable integrated coilovers for the EF is Tein. I asked God if he could get them, and he said he could, it would just take awhile to order them.
I would much rather have a fully integrated shock/spring coilover than the sleeves myself, and that is what I'll hold out for unless the stock stuff blows up, and I need a quick replacement.

Yeah tein is bad *** but for around 1000 bucks on suspension i cannot justify, as long as i dont bottom out my car or feel every rock im happy. Suspension isnt really one of my main focuses and it being a part you have to change every so often doesnt really sway me. Im broke as a joke, need something cheap. hehe.

The AGXs are pretty easy. There is a slot on the top of the shaft, so all you have to do is pop your hood, or pop the little covers off in the back. You just use a little screwdriver (which it comes with). As far as difference, you can definatly feel it. They go from pretty firm, to hard as a rock. For example: Before you put them on, your able to compress them by hand on the softest setting. On the hardest spot, its almost impossible to move them by hand. You can definatly feel the difference. As far as tokikos, i don't have any personal experiance with them. I did a lot of looking into everything before i bought the KYBs, and everyone who has them said that they liked them fine. Didn't really hear anything bad about them, so i went ahead and got them. Good decision i think.
