Its a help, but you can also compress the piston back into the caliper by pushing on it with the flat side of a wrench.

I bought a C-clamp for pretty cheap from AutoZone. It even had a spiffy button so I could slide the clamping part, so I didn't have to crank it the whole time down onto the piston, just slide it and then turn the clamp to push the piston back in. That's by far the easiest way to do it.

you can use a screw driver and pry against the old pad while the caliper is still on the spindel bracket. i've done it many times on other cars. but not a teg yet. so far i haven't had a chance to do any brakes on a teg so i'm not 100% sure how well this would work on a teg. but works well on other cars. fast too.

That's what I use. I don't know what the obsession with c clamps is. I have used pliers for more things that I've used c clamps for. IMO, getting the adjustable pliers is a better investment.

A little off key: pliers looks funny if you read it enough times

Adjustable wrench or "channel locks" work too, but I prefer the c-clamp. Whatever floats your boat...

As for the "pliiiiiiieeeeeeerrrrsss"... that's what m-w.com is for, to check spelling after you've weirded yourself out about a word.

I like to use the c clamp so that i can manuever it in such a way that it compresses the piston from the center of the piston, and not anywhere else.. so that it will compress more evenly. i worrie that if i do it on the lip or unevenly, that it might decompress unevenly and cause uneven pad wear. but it could be me jus be too picky.

Used my fingers the last time, but usually some channel locks work great.
