Default Kumho Ecsta V700

After searching through zerosearch for information on this tire, I still have not found any solid feedback about using this tire for road racing. After my next HPDE I think my Hoosiers radials will be pretty much gone and I will need replacements. I am also very limited in size running a 13" wheel. Has anyone competed on these tires? If so, what are your opinions. The price difference between the Kumho and the Hoosier is hard to ignore.

I am also ready to replace my Hoosier Bias Ply Autocrossers, probably with the same tires. These twins can be expensive.

I think the Ecsta V700s are complete garbage. I ran them for the entire Honda Challenge season last year. They overheated during every race, chunked, did not last long and just plain wear down funny. You have to see them to see what I mean. They just don't wear evenly at all. I ran 225/45/15. I qualified well on those tires but they just went away during the race. I did not switch to other tires because I thought I would be giving up too much grip by going to the 205/50/15 Toyo and I could not afford Hoosiers. If I find the money to run this season I will run the Toyo. From everything I am hearing, even with giving up 10% tire width the Toyos grip as well as the Kumho, last three times as long and don't overheat easily. I have actually run the Toyo in a 17 inch sizing and they are nice. If you are set on running the Kumho I would run the old Victoracer compound.

I ran the Kumho Victoracers last year (and the year before in just autox). They are OK, but I think there is just one size available in 13".

I received my Toyo Proxy RA-1s a week or so ago, from JR at Don@cjtire.com (thanks to downer_22)

I figure having the Toyos will help prepare for the 2004 seaon.

100% agree - I ran Ecsta V700's with the exact same problem. They were without question THE worst r compound I've ever used. I'll be going back to the Vistoracer for the dry and RA's in the wet.

I am suprised you guys don't like them. I love them. I raced all year on them and with the exception of Roebling Road, they were kick ***.

I am speachless that you guys don't like them.

I heard that the older sets of the V700 were made from some medium silica compound. Supposedly, this has been changed and the tires should not chunk anymore. I don't know wheather that is true or not, but I know some people that are running them this season so I guess I'll find out first hand.

On Tire Rack's site they say not to even autocross with full tread ECSTAs. They must be getting lots of complaints.

I have run one set of 225-50/14 and one set of 225-45/15,. They do wear a little funny, but I had no problems with chunking.

I ran them lasts and thougt they were good. I got a decent deal on them 100 bucks a piece shaved and no shipping for 205/50R15. although I corded them at the track one day when going around a tight hairpin cause I had no LSD. If anyone is getting rid of a slightly used one, let me know since my other 3 are still ok for some events.
