Default Beware the World Challenge bling...

SEBRING, Fla. (March 14, 2003) – SCCA Pro Racing® Ltd. and Toyo Tires® announced today that Toyo will continue to serve as the Official Tire of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge® Championships through the 2006 season, a three-year extension to the previous agreement. Additionally, it was announced that, beginning in 2004, all SCCA Speed Touring Cars would run on 18” Toyo Proxes RA-1® race tires.

Hell, does a Honda have enough torque to turn an 18" wheel. Hehe.

Nice for SCCA, but requiring an 18" wheel seems like BS to me.

Does toyo even make 18" RA-1's narrow enough to fit a honda?

And regardless, that sounds like $$$$ for lightweight 18" wheels and 18" RA-1s.

That's sucks, I hate when they mandate a rule for show. The RSX should be OK to fit the 18's but for a Civic or Integra.

EDIT: Toyo does make a 225-40-18 in the RA1.

Sounds like the big teams are going to have a LOT of used wheels to sell!

Going 'cheap' -> 18" SSR competitions are $400+ each.... ~ $1,700 for just wheels... So looks like total for wheels and tires will run around $3,000...

As last I heard it was under development. In fact, these r-compound dubs are the reason Toyo won't step up and do a 225-45-15 for us "little people." They told us there wasn't enough money in it to justify the tooling, given the expense they've accumulated putting the dubs together.

Sounds like they should quit trying to buy their way into the market(s) and just start producing what people need.

With the plus sizing in wheel diameter, will that mean they will allow bigger brakes as well to fill up that space?

Maybe the series is trying to sell an image like the Super Touring cars... bigger wheels sell.

Super Tourers need bigger wheels because the rules allow bigger brakes. Doing it the other way around seems a little illogical...

I wish... they are actually 205/60R13.

And heavy for a 13" tire.

Really? I'd think that 18" SSR Comps would be more...15" Volk TE37s retail for $385 each and 15" Comps go for ~$300.

For my '90 GS integra (which is no longer a GS... ) they would be around $419 each at Tirerack for 18X7.5 SSR Competition wheels.

Well, it seems like are allowing the use of larger brakes. So it makes sense now
