Default CAT overheat light

Hi folks - I own a 95 Si Integra
and at the moment, the CAT overheat light is on, the CAT I believe has gotten some oil in it, and thats causing the overheat. Is there a way, to get the oil out, i.e. blast it up the motorway ? or should I replace the CAT. Also will the light go off ? or is there a way to shut it off.

Cheers Folks

Interesting.

US Spec cars do not have that light.

You will probably get some interesting responses.

As stated above US Spec cars do not have that light... take a picture of it, I'm curious to see what it looks like.

Weird. I'd just replace the cat.

it looks kinda like that - and its in the same section as the oil light on the dials. I had the oil dropped out of the car, and took it for a drive last night. The light was pretty constant, so i drove the car fairly hard, and after a few minutes, the light went off. After a good 30minutes of driving, the light flicked on for a moment. For the rest of the night, it flicked on, for about 2 seconds, 4 times. As opposed to being always on. So my hope now is the CAT has burnt most , if not all the oil off now.

As for changing the CAT, I saw a lovely high performance one for sale, but I have a suspicion that the diameter of the CAT, or the length of the manifold to the CAT is different to the GSR/US model teg, which makes it harder to find a CAT.

How does the car run? If you have a misfire, excessive HC's (raw petrol) are going to go through the cat and cause it to overheat.

By the way, I was just in Ireland a couple of weeks ago (in the Limerick area) and I love your country. People there are pretty cool. The pubs are second to none.

Yup, im from ireland, dublin to be exact. My car is a Japanese import, so its a Honda Integra, and not an Acura Integra.

The pubs are great alright, but id prefer to live in the US, better roads, better cars !

Car is running fine, so its all really strange, but earlier tonight, i noticed a different noise coming from the car, not sure where, but it conincided with the red light coming on.

the us spec CAT's would work, You would need to have a muffler shop weld it in anyway and they could lengthen or shorten the rear section of the exhaust to make it fit.

However, findig the problem sounds to me a better idea. Run a self diagagnostic check and see what comes up. LEt us know.

Damn, i've never seen a car with that kinda problem. Overheating cat...hmm. What does it say in the manual? Possibly I would think that the car running too lean or rich (i forget which one) would make your exhaust hotter, thus the "hot cat". Maybe thats what its indicating. This might be because of a bad O2 sensor? I'm just throwing some things out, I don't really know. I wouldn't think your cat would need to be replaced under normal conditions. My teg has 215,000 miles (I guess alot more Kms) and I still passed inspection with my original catalyc converter.
