An F22 is not an easy swap to get into a 3rd gen, although it can be done. Your most easy bet is B series engine. Now knowing all that is done with B engines, you got plenty of choices: B16A (not enough torque), B16B (still not enough torque, but happy revver), B18A1 (modest in power, but good torque), B18B, (lots of wiring), B18C (high power, prolly the cheapest among high-revving B's), and top of the hill, B18C5, ITR engine. You also got B20 that may be worth looking into when fitted with a VTEC head.
What you may want to remember, though, is all the wiring that needs to be done, especially on OBD2, VTEC engines. Also watgh out for hydraulic clutch conversions, that will rise your costs a little more.
All this being said, I'd say go with B18A if you want to keep your costs down. But if you're looking for all out power, do the B18C5.

the easy swap for that year would be b-series engine the chassis is not big enough for the h22a major modifcations need to fit f22b1 will not fit
