i need some help swapping an si motor into my dx
i got a straight 88 dx and a beat 90 si with a killer built motor, how hard is it to install the si motor in my dx? i'm a vw guy and don't know to much about these honda's yet. if anybody is local i could pay them to show me how, i will do all the install i would just need help wiring it up.
the motor drops right into the car, it has the same mounts. IMO i think you should swap to the Si suspension, change the whole front assembly, and the entire back assembly too. when you do that you have to use the Si axles because the Si hub side of the axle is bigger than the DX hub side of the axle and the car. You would want to run the bigger axles so you don't have to worry about snapping them. i have to do the same thing with my Dx because i just picked up a T25 turbo and i am swapping to a 92 Si motor. it's worth it, good luck man.
they bolt right in but you have to rewire your engine harness, do a search for mpfi swap and you will get a bunch of info
well i'm probably gonna use the dx axles because there brand new and the si axels click like a son of a bitch. can i use the si dash? and is the si tranny geared diferent than the dx?
I can help you...I live in Kirkland WA...hit me um with an IM...I am a VW guy too..but I have a 90 HB w/ B16 now...i got your back
take his advice on the axels because you dont want to snap them while driving or racing, if they snap could cause other damages, safer to replace them now.

You'll also want the tranny: the Si tranny has the same 1st-5th as your DX, but the final drive is lower. If you do use your 88DX trans, you will need to use your 88 flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate. The 88 tranny has a 21 spline input shaft, the 90 has 20 splines, so the clutch disk won't fit. use the si's tranny, clutch, PP, and flywheel and you'll be fine.
the best place to find out about the DX to Si wiring changes is here:

the ZC and the Si have the same wiring.
I'm not quite local, but I'm not too far off (1hr south of Portland) the problem is, I'm having a few problems with my Si swap right now, so there's no way I could get up there right now. I know there's a few guys up your way that could help, we just had a NW H-T meet in Seatle and I met a few of them. Most of them seem to be driving EG's or EK's though.

The DX/SI hubs are the same, and the axles are almost identicle, So you dont have to change those out. Maybe you are getting cunfused about the HF hubs/ and HF axles.
Snapping axles takes alot more than just a stock A6, it takes some serious HP, and some hard launchs..
The wiring swap is pretty easy, their are lots of write ups on how to do the dpfi-mpfi swap.
Since you are local, I can do the Swap for you if you like...
285 for R&R motor (includes fluids), and 85 for DPFI-MPFI Swap (includes wiring/resistor box), I can get it done in 1 day no problem. I also have an SI ECU for 40 bucks..
(we are certified techs btw..)
IM/PM me if you are interested..
