How can I give a stock D16Y7 some power and torque?
Hi guys! I am new on this forum and pretty much new in Honda world. So I would appreciate it if you can overlook possible BS produced by my lack of knowledge and try to help me if you can.
I bought 96 Civic coupe D16Y7 (105 HP). Every part on the car is a stock part. The only thing I changed is air filter (I bought K&N).
My question is... how can I increase the performance of my car? I don't mean 100 HP or anything like that, more like 20-30 HP. I will give a few examples of what I would like to change, so if someone knows what is the best way to achieve this...
1. faster shifter (the stock one seems to be too slow since I am loosing 1.5 seconds in 0-60)
2. more power from 2000-4000 (I feel like engine will suficate when I shift on high rpm's - when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear on 6500 rpm's, rpm's fall to almost 5000). I would say my engine needs more air or something like that
I am more than satisfied with everything else. So if anyone knows how to do this please HELP!!!

First you might wanna try the EG/EK board if you haven't already. From your post, it sounds like you aren't happy with the cars acceleration. This can be alleviated with a EX transmission. Try starting with the basic bolt-ons like a header and cat-back exhaust and work from there. Also, try to learn as much as possible about your motor and what the available options there are for improving the performance of your motor. Try searching on this site.
Well, acceleration isn't something. It takes me 9 seconds from 0-60 mph.
You said EX TRANSMISSION. Is it quicker (smoother) than the one I have now? When I shift, it seems like shifter stops for a while in idle and then goes into the gear. You can not just hit it from 1st to 2nd or whatever. There's always this idle that pisses me off. I drove VW with weaker engine but the transmission was awesome (the only thing worthy mentioning on the car). The shifter was like on WRC... smooth, quick no choacking in idle... Like there was no idle at all.

I am sorry to say but that would suck to have thoes initials!! Anyways when you want some power alwasy go for basic bolt-ons such as people already metioned. Now if you want real power open up that motor and do some internal work or do forced induction or get on the bottle.
you could get a new cam + ecu, you could get some nitrous, you could go w/ boost, you could get bolt ons, it all goes back to how many dead president's you have in the bank.
