92 Honda Civic Race Car for sale. E2/PS2...Honda Challenge
Working on a new project so this car is being sold.
5 enduro wins, brand new Rebello D16Z motor (being finished as I type this), recent rebuilt Si tranny with Quaife ATB LSD, car is a direct descendent of Taz Harvey and Roger Foo's Escort Civic
Excellent enduro car...many spares...ready to go out of the box. If you can't win a NASA race in this car, you probably can't win a NASA race with any car.
Asking $8,000...spares package also available.
Please e-mail: nasaracerforums@***.net
Please no tire kickers...this is a race car, can't be made street legal isn't a drag car and is for someone either currently racing or looking to get into racing with an excellent pre-sorted car. Campaigned in Nor. Cal region over the last 3 years...well known car with excellent history.

You are on the market about five months too early for my needs but a couple of quick questions...
Any modifications that are beyond SCCA IT rules and not difficult to undo?
Did it start life as an Si (ie. does it have Si VINs)?
Fuel cell?
What's the cage like?
Kirk
(not REALLY a tire kicker)

It does meet SCCA IT rules but as a SOHC VTEC can't run ITA (for some reason...despite it being virtually identical in performance to an ITA CRX).
It started life as a CX so has no power-steering...none of the extra stuff. We got the car salvage title and made it into a race car.
No fuel cell, wasn't advantageous for the enduros since we could be required to demonstrate it had identical fuel capacity to the original car at any time and that risk made it better to simply work with the stock tank.
Bolt-in cage with NASCAR bars...the suspension setup accounts for the chassis flex and is the result of Roger Foo's work. We went with a bolt-in due to the disposable nature of race cars so it works extremely well. We thought about welding the cage in but then would have to re-engineer the suspension setup and we were already winning and had no trouble in the handling front.
We were careful to have the motor built to IT specs since they are the same as for NASA.
The setup (and undamaged parts) came from "Ole Blue" that we were running until Taz wrote it off:

Oh, well - at least this way I don't have to make a decision...
Since it started life as a CX, it isn't ITS legal as an Si. (I won't get started about the SCCA, the 1.6, and ITA at this point.) The fact that it is 2500 miles away makes it easier to not worry as well.
Nice car - good idea - I'll end up having to build something very much like it but probably with a trunk.
Unless someone knows the guy that ran the MARRS series with the ITS EX and he wants to sell?

fresh cx drivetrain = competitive ITC car?
Since when did a CX come with a Rebello built D16Z with 130hp at the wheels and an Si tranny with an LSD?
1:49s at laguna, 2:05's at Buttonwillow, 2:07's at T-hill.
The advantage of the CX chassis was no sunroof, no power steering, no power anything. The car has Integra front brakes and has the Si rear brakes.

Incorrect, the body STYLE and engine/transmission type are correct for IT racing. It's essentially a Civic Si without the extra weight of the Si body extras.

Sorry man - not true. While it would be really nice if "essentially a Civic Si" cut it...
"...it is not permitted to 'create' a model or type of car by updating or backdating assemblies" and "the VIN shall correspond with the automobile classified, and will determine the model and type for competition purposes. A minimum of two VIN plates and/or stampings is required." (2003 ITCS)
It's a dumb rule but it's still a rule. Now (and I don't know if this is the case, one way or the other) if the VIN doesn't distinguish between the Si and the CX, one might be able to pull it off.
The point about ITC is a good one, though. With OEM bolt-on brakes and a new engine/transaxle, it would be a great ITC car.

Been many years since I raced in SCCA and we never looked into running the Civic in IT anything due to the SOHC VTEC Civic being considered an ITS car (baffling).
So I stand corrected...we've always legally run it in E2 and our primary competition is ITA CRXs with which it runs virtually identical lap times and we run the car in enduros only due to the bang for the buck track time the enduros provide.

Well, like I said, it doesn't make any sense. FWIW, I have a proposal in to SCCA to classify the '96+ EX in ITA. They have put some cars with bigger engines in A, since the '92-95 cars were abandoned in S so the bar has been raised a bit. That, and I'm operating on the current belief that it would be simpler to get the newer car listed in A than to get them to reclassify the older model out of S. Again - dumb.
The reason I am looking at this option is the same as your thinking. I really like endurance racing and this car - your car - is a great answer. Good luck with the sale and thanks for the info!

One of the best things about enduro racing is that TWO guys can share 50/50 seat time (and the cost) and you have a crew of friends who help so there's a whole team dynamic beyond sprint racing. Its a very different thing preparing a car and then racing for 1.5 hour stints where your pit stops are critical. The 12 hour is the ultimate example of that...I did 6 total hours of racing in the 2000 12 hour...it was exhausting but a great test of concentration, stamina, strategy and discipline. Sprint racing and hanging it all out is fun but anyone who can should try an enduro to see what it's all about.
Good luck in your search...this car will be replaced with a completely different type of car that would also be raced in enduros.

Guess i should have been more specific. I meant, by ripping your built engine out, and installing a fresh cx drivetrain, with the allowed mods, it could possibly be a competitive ITC car.
up she goes.
