Picking up some Kumho V700 ...questions.
I was approached by a friend that has a friend who bought some rims and wanted to sell of the tires that came on them...well, what are they 6 Kumho
v700 205/50/16 for $120
2 tires have ~2-3 autocrosses left
2 tires are in better shape
2 tires are newly shaved
I'll be attending a track day on the 21st, what do I need to know about using these tires. The car is a 2001 Type-R, stock suspension, Cobalt GT-R spec V brake pads front, a few power adders...I think that's it.
I've never used R compound tires on the track, only at a couple of autocrosses, so I'm looking for what I should, and what I shouldn't do.
Thanks for any help,
Austin

33-34 psi cold. Warm them up slowly to get a feel for them (first session or two). You will be able to be alot more aggressive in your inputs (braking, steering) but this doesnt mean you shouldnt be smooth. They will also "give up" with less warning than street tires - so push them gradually. Inspect the tires after each session for funny wear patterns, rotate after each day. I'd save the tires with 2-3 autoX events left as spares in case something happens to one of the "better" tires.
heed the warning aobut R compounds not giving much notice before they lose grip. i had first hand experience with this in a SRF. as i kept getting more and more comfortable with the car i pushed harder and harder, eventually i reached a point where i was bouncing off the redline in 3rd around a corner, so i decided to "go for it," left it in 4th, tap the brakes, and gave it the ol college try. well, the ol college try ended me up in a gravel trap waving to the corner worker to signal everything was a-o-k.
don't be a
like me and try and do too much too soon.
