Help me build an All-motor Mini-Me!
I'm going to rebuild the A6/Z6 mini-me in my 91Si. It's kinda my beater car, and it smokes a bit as it is. I'm looking too add some more pep to it since i'm gonna be in it anyways. I want something that'll pull till at most 8k. A bugeted build-up with mostly stock parts is my route. Here is my "**** list" of upgrades.
- A6 block -
ACL bearings
Rods - don't know A6, ZC/A1, LS?
Pistons - 88-89 Teg/ZC OR 98-00 Civic GX piston
-Z6 Head -
Mild Cam - recommendations?
Springs/reatainers ?
Port match
-other stuff-
Y8 intake mani
Chipped ECU with better fuel/timing maps
Other bolt-on crap.
This ought to be good for 12:1 compression and some decent HP figures. It should be *relatively* cheap since you can use mostly stock parts. I put the Z6 head on my A6 block and the VTEC didn't impress me too much. Then again I am running a RPM switch setup on an 88 teg ECU ...
So now that i've laid out my master plan, gimme some tips. I've been over here reading up some on building the d-series. I'm trying to decide on what rods(stock) and what cam(aftermarket) to use.
-For rods/pistons i'm leaning towards just stock D16A1/ZC. They're about the easiest to come by. However the Civic GX pistons are about 12:1 c/r with a Z6 head, BUT they use a bigger wrist pin than other d-series(21mm vs 19mm). The GX piston's would mate easily to LS rods... However you'd still have to machine the big-end of the rod to match the B-series crank
.
-For a cam i'm leaning towards a nice agressive ZEX cam.
Anyone feel free to shoot down something that's wrong, or add in anything that may help me out. I'm looking for something that'll pull mid-low 14's in a CRX. This is just a fun low $$, project for my dying beater car, it doesn't have to be fast. I've got the car in the sig for that
