Default Clutch or Tranny?

5spd 1990 Civic 170k miles
2 & 3rd gear @ low rpms seems as though the transmission slips or surges, but if I rev the engine it works fine.

Sometimes at low rpms it will slip out of gear where as the stick still physically is in the proper spot, however, I will have to pull it out of gear and rev it, then put it back in the gear to get it to catch.

So you know, a slipping clutch 'surges' the most at full throttle in a lower gear. Mine did at least. Sounds like your clutch is fubared.
