Help!!! Code 8.... car is stalling, sputtering, back-firing, etc....
I was driving on the freeway at about 70mph when the car felt like it shut off and turned back on... at which point the check engine light also came up.... VTEC didn't work and the car was sputtering, stalling and back firing like crazy....
I checked the code and it was an 8... something to do with the crank angle sensor....
I was told it may be the distributor and since I had a spare one lying around (which I know for a fact that it is in 100% working condition), I swapped distributors....
Unfortunately, the car is still sputtering, stalling and most of all... back firing....
there is no check engine light now though... and VTEC works as well...
anyone have any idea of what's going on???

Try opening the distributor and see if there is any damage. I had my rotor screw come loose and busted my CYP sensor (code 9). I was forced to replace the distributor housing.

Code 8 is TDC (top dead center) sensor. Pull of your valve cover and make sure your cam gear didnt slip. Sounds like your timing is way off.
Happened to me last week. It was the distributor. And yah, that`s the tdc code. Crank angle sensor is mounted to your oil pump. I doubt it`s that.
Could bewiring if you have done anything to that, I threw a code 8 when i fitted my apexi rev meter, turned out it was a bad connection I hadnt rewired properly.
My baby was doing the same thing, same code and every thing you had motioned . I went through all the trouble shootings and every thing checked out fine. When I mean every thing I mean every last reason why my car wouldn’t start. I did change my injectors prior to my engine not starting, it came down to the injectors dumping to much gas in the motor and it just killed my spark plugs. But if you have the Helms manual just go through all the trouble shooting to why your car will not start. You will find the answer.
