Default funny oil behavior

does anyone have this "problem" -- when my engine is cold... or has been sitting for a while, the oil is down on the bottom hole of the dipstick... but after driving, it goes to its regular postion, slightly above the top hole...

anyone else do this?

Stupid Q: Do you wipe the dipstick then check?

Let's solve this problem right here. Add oil to the top mark when engine is cold. Done. Happy ricing.

lmfao. lol best reply lately. (not quite ever, sorry )

edit: PS: To be most accurate, fill the oil through the dipstick tube!

to check oil, take out the stick, cool the car for several hours, wipe it with cloth/paper towel,
place it back and pull it, anything lower than second dot/hole is low oil - add oil until it reaches second dot/hole

That's your problem. You have to pull it out and wipe it then insert again and check for an accurate reading. If you don't, the car splashes all over the place and the reading will be wrong.

The bottom mark on the dipstick is the where the oil level should be a when engine is cold. Top mark indicates oil level when engine is hot. When temps increase, metals and oils expand resulting in the higher oil level after engine has been driven. In other words, what you are seeing is normal. When doing an oil change just fill the engine up w/ 4qts of oil and your're set (assuming you check and top off oil regularly).

Edit: Your vs Your're

I believe that the stock Type-R specifications read 4.25 quarts...but I could be wrong.
