AEM CAI owners.. got a question....
those who own a CAI, do you guys still have the splash gaurd covering the filter? i have a short ram right now and i have my new CAI sitting in my room in the box. my splash gaurd where the filter is goign to go has been ripped out due to hitting a snow and it ripped it out, so i'm wondering if i put the CAI on will it harm my car or not? i will also be installing the bypass valve as well, i have that with me, but i was reading instructiong and they say to leave the splash shild/guard there. please help. any help will do. thx guys.
I'm in the same boat, I saw part of my splash guard go flying down
the highway in my rear view.
From what I'm told the cone has to be completely submerged, but
don't quote me on that.

If I were you I think I would want to have something protecting my filer, either that or i'd switch back to stock intake during the winter. cause i dont know where u live, but in most places during the winter, the roads are packed with salt and I'd hate to have my filter covered in salt.
i live in Toronto, Canada.
so my only major concern would be the salt than correct?
cuz i have the bypass valve as well
and i've heard that you have to be totattly submerged to have that puppy start to suck up water.
hmm..so should i go to scrap yard and pick up a shild?

Either go CAI w/no bypass valve or just go short ram. The bypass causes about a 3 hp loss (give or take)so you might as well not even have a CAI. In my opinion, there are better ways to spend $300 and frankly, I dont understand why it is such a popular beginning mod. Just get a K&N drop in and then fabricate a direct air flow to the filter from the bumper.

ya it sucks we have to wait till the roads are clean to put it on , but im putting mine on end of march as long as long as you have no holes in ur fender lining it should be all good
beginning mod?
lol
that wasn't my beggining mod.
lol
my beggining mod was a swap
lol
naw i have no liner whatsoever, i got it cheap FYI, that's why, but the liner/splash gaurd is compeltely gone, so my cone will be completely exposed.

i built my crvtec b4 i got an intake
my beginning mod was crvtec.
I don't have the splash gaurd, or at least the piece on the very bottom. However, I did manage to save the rest of the fender lining. I heard it rip off and start to buzz against the tire while on the freeway, so I pulled over and cut out the part that lays flat and is directly under the filter - the rest of the liner is OK.
I don't drive my CRX in the rain, but if you don't have the fender liner at all, it's probably not a good idea to drive in any heavy rain with the CAI on. If you had the rest of the fender liner like I do, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

yepa your right, better safe than sorry
i'll go do that, i'll contact my local honda dealer.
thanks guys...
oh and those whom do have it, do you guys have any flange of metal sticking out to bolt it up to the side fender or anything? cuz mine just came with 2 pipes, the connectors and the bypass valve. no rubber bushing to install it on the bay. thanks
